I don't think people are expecting this to have anything to do with Islamic extremism. More likely to be someone who has an issue with Tesco itself.

i like how islamic extremists as a term now slips right into peoples way of speaking.

i wonder why we dont refer to british invading extremists or mr bush's troops as christian extremists?

I think it's quite unfortunate.

Surely there is quite a big difference in the role of religion in the two. I don't think there is a strong link between western actions in the Middle East and the Christian faith. IMO it's more about global dominance and empire building. I'm sure a big part of what we describe as 'Islamic extremism' it is politically motivated, but, I think there is significant religious component to it as well.

bush's actions are without doubt fired by religious thinking.

blairs to an extent as well although maybe not as far as bush.

I just find it interesting how we are quick to attach negative labels to islamic extremists (who may not be fired by religion at all but possibly the situation in iraq, palestine etc) but not so quick to do it to the british state.

I genuinely don't think there is much of a religious influence in the UK actions. Blair might have some stong feelings on the issue, although seems to be pretty confused on the matter as well (is he going to convert to the RC church?), but I don't think it's that influential for him. I would definitely say it's only a minor issue for those around him in the UK Government, Whitehall and in Parliament. I really do think it's a world away from many of the religiously inspired bombings like 7/7.

Absolutely. The police were being quote as saying that there was no extremist element. Really ? Someone who places a bomb for whatever cause is an extremist to me !
