i thought i was watching an advert for the orange order. not one question asked of them not one person from outside the order allowed to speak.
still though they did manage many classics...highlights for me as follows:
all fascists have been catholic...hitler, mussolini and de valera
catholics are cannibals as the eucharist ceremony means the wine and bread represents the body and blood of christ.
"we have 12, 000 here today. we could be the biggest party in the world, we could rule the world" (the snp later won the elction).
(on the march to celebrate the union) "there will be face painting and men going down the street dressed as clowns" oh you aint kidding pal

All Fascists have been Catholic? I doubt Vidkun Quisling was. There's not many in Norway.
"catholics are cannibals as the eucharist ceremony means the wine and bread represents the body and blood of christ."
Well, Proddies say it "represents", RCs are supposed to believe it is. Any way, a bizarre ceremony that we accept because it is there... |

I agree its bizzare myself but no more so than facing east when praying or lumping bits of your foreskin off imo, each to their own and all that but cannibals
and aye he did actually say that about fascists. mind you i did used to stand next to oswald mosley in the jungle...them were the days _________________ "our revenge will be the laughter of our children" bobby sands MP

Nope, as I understand it he was Church of Norway. A daft comment indeed, that was.

The point about 'hocus pocus' was well taken however - the idea that a simple ordinated priest can turn wine into blood etc is beyond the pale in terms of the ridiculous.

They are a significant political force, should they wish to be; I don't think anyone can deny that. _________________ The resident pantomime villain.

What is it we are talking about? Is this a radio programme, a newspaper interview? Can we see it here before making comments on it?
I dont think that they are a political force Aventinian. There may be a few thousand here and there but they dont have the influence in the wider population.
I live in a staunchly orange town and even here they would be at the margins in terms of influence politically. There is an orangeman who is a councillor but he got there through his high profile work in the community rather than the "orange" vote. |

I cannot deny that but I would dispute that they are still what they once were and to be impartial in the matter, neither are those of the other tradition are what they once were. I would agree that they are still influential, that they are not quite a spent force. I'm thankful that the influence of both traditions are on the wane and staunch adherents of both traditions are now a perceived minority.
Last nights programme was an exercise in public relations of softly, softly, touchy, feely pap.New Blood spin was emphasized by them throughout the programme and thats telling. The Grand Master was touchy feely, like a erm wise man to five year olds on how they should change. What a load of bawjawing, they are being forced to change by the greater majority of public opinion and last night display of we are just cuddly teddy bears deceived none but the gullible.
That little homely on the wrong sort of funeral service only reinforced my cynicism of the creatures. my dad was a holier than thou RC and was buried in a RC graveyard. All my mothers side were staunch bitter orange and when she died and joined my dad the whole lot of them attended an RC funeral mass in the chapel to pay their respects. That was nearly 15 years ago. They, the orange order are changing not because the want to but because in todays society they have to conform to the perceived majority's view of what is acceptable nowadays. Whatever the orange order memberships private thoughts on the matter.

Oswald Mosley crypto-Cafflick. The mind boggles...
Metaxas in Greece was presumably Cafflick tae (there is a Greek RC minority)

Well spotted - LOL (that's "Laughing Out Loud", not "Loyal Orange Lodge")
The Orange Order are few in number, but they are concentrated in certain areas - therein lies the rub. |
