First post, so forgive me if this has already been covered. And by the way I'm English.

Given the rise of Tory support (in England at least) and the growing unpopularity of New Labour, there is a distinct possibility that at the next UK general elction there will be a Tory Govt overall, but with Scottish labour party running your assembly and still a minority of Tory MPs in Scotland.

This will give rise I am sure to many areas of friction and difficulty. This will be the result of the halfbaked devolution we currently "enjoy". I can't believe that this scenario could be maintained for any serious period of time.

Thoughts?

This gets talked about quite a lot in nationalist circles and it has come up in a few threads here. I see it as the next best way to achieve independence after a majority of pro-independence parties in Holyrood.

I've always been of the opinion that Labour in Holyrood and Tory in Westminster will never work. It would show up all problems with the current settlement and it will become clear that there are only two options. Scrap the Scottish parliament, which will never happen, or become fully independent.

I was a wee bit concerned this week when Cameron was in Edinburgh recently and he arranged to meet up with McConnell to discuss the setting up of structures to allow the two parties to work together should they both be in power in the two parliaments. I still can't see it ever working though. There is so much animority towards the Tories by Scottish Labour, and the Tories have no respect what so ever for Scottish Labour. I think it was more of a publicity stunt by Cameron to show how confident he is of getting into power in 2009.
