So they reckon Bin Laden might be dead (http://english.people.com.cn/200609/25/eng20060925_306134.html). Do folk think he is? And even if he is, things have moved on now, would it make any difference?

I think that it would make a propaganda difference to the american administration as they vowed to find him, if he's dead then they don't have to look any more, assuming they have actually been looking for the man who saved bush' presidency and replaced communism as the great enemy and unifier of american public opinion. His continued existence has been an issue of some embarresment to the american government and a cause of anger to many americans but suprisingly not high on the visible agenda of issues.

I remember the claims that Bin Ladin was this great figure behind an international terrorist movement; it was a bit like Bloefelt - a patron of terror sort of thing (the media still reffer to leaders of terrorist groups with the moniker: number 2, or number one man in ... etc). He was "bigged up to the max" at the time as financier and figurehead but many subsequent atrocaties have been demonstrated to be perpetrated by citizens of their own country as in London- intra-national terrorism although the issues are international.

It was claimed years ago that bin Ladin (who's family are bussines partners of the Bush family and were the only people allowed to leave america immediately after the 9/11 atrocity, in fact I think the government flew them out) suffered from a kidney disorder, it may have needed dialysis as a lifesaving treatment, so , if true, he could have died. I beleive that this "death" story did not come from an american source which is interesting as are they not actively researching his status and does the CIA not have enormous resources? If it is wrong at least they can't be blamed for it; the story has however, just by being released, and regardless of confirmation status, has allowed the thought or possibility of one troublesome issue regarding Bush' incompetence to slip into peoples consciousness as resolved or closed. It demonstrates classic mis-information qualities. "Not confirmed but from a previously very reliable source", I heard on the news; a negative followed by an evaluation of suggested accuracy to the opposite of the only certainty that is actually asserted; i.e. uncertainty - were sure that we're uncertain, but we may be wrong about that. With that level of intelligence who knows?

So I think it does make a difference in that respect but it does not alter the momentum of the "war on terror" as that is now self-perpetuatring - job done.

I wouldn't be surprised if Billy had been storing him in a deep freeze since 2002, ready to pull out when convienient.
I also believe that Castro is dead.

I don't think it would make any difference if he was found or not.

However the thing that gets me is that they found Saddam Hussein after just a few months of hunting. He was hiding "down a hole" in Iraq.

The CIA (or is it FBI?) must be the most resourced intelligence ageny in the world. If they really wanted something, they would find a way of getting it. So why haven't they found Bin Laden?
