Choose a quotation for the wall of the Parliament Building.

According to the BBC

Members of the public are being asked to suggest a quotation to be carved on the wall of the Scottish Parliament to mark 10 years of devolution.

I'm not going to enter but if I did it would be this from Robert Burns

HERE Stuarts once in glory reigned,
And laws for Scotland’s weal ordained;
But now unroof’d their palace stands,
Their sceptre’s sway’d by other hands;
Fallen indeed, and to the earth        5
Whence groveling reptiles take their birth.
The injured Stuart line is gone,
A race outlandish fills their throne;
An idiot race, to honour lost;
Who know them best despise them most.

The 24 quotes already on the wall are here

Does haughty Gaul invasion threat?
.....Then let the loons beware, sir,
There's wooden walls upon our seas,
.....And volunteers on shore, sir:
The Nith shall rin to Corsincon,
.....And Criffel sink in Solway,
Ere we permit a foreign foe
.....On British ground to rally.

O! let us not, like snarling curs,
.....In wrangling be divided,
Till slap come in an unco loon
.....And wi' a rung decide it.
Be Britain still to Britain true,
.....Amang ourselves united;
But never but by British hands
.....Maun British wrangs be righted.

The profanity filter may go into overdrive here, but I'm quoting a culural classic, so that's ok  Wink

My choice for a quote:

Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a f***ing big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose a three-piece suite on hire purchase in a range of f***ing fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the f**k you are on Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing f***ing junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, F***ed up brats you spawned to replace yourselves. Choose your future. Choose life...

Chose the sad ramblings of a beaten Robert Burns, trying not to get fired from his job as an exiseman, by the then already powerfully installed pro-British elements in Scottish society.

Burns had his family to feed and that is far more important than this aberrant rhyme he wrote to appease his paymasters.

Still, if you actually read this poor quality verse(probably took Burns 2 minutes to write) you will see Burns is saying it's up to the Scots and the English to decide what to do about their futures and not the possible invading French republican forces.

I can quote you far more powerful Burns poetry cursing the union.

Sic a parcel o' rogues in a nation.

"This cost HOW much?  Shocked "

I think something from Burns would be the appropriate choice and NOT some new age 'Together we can' banality.

I think something from 'For a' that' would be the business.

A prince can mak a belted knight,
A marquis, duke, an' a' that;
But an honest man's aboon his might,
Guid faith he mauna fa' that!
For a' that, an' a' that,
Their dignities, an' a' that,
The pith o' sense, an' pride o' worth,
Are higher rank than a' that.

Then let us pray that come it may,
As come it will for a' that,
That sense and worth, o'er a' the earth,
May bear the gree, an' a' that.
For a' that, an' a' that,
It's coming yet, for a' that,
That man to man, the warld o'er,
Shall brothers be for a' that.

sod' me but it's a dismall lookin' building.

I think they should have a stone inserted  in the wall that has slot carved in it.
Above the slot there should be a brass plate with the inscription:

All donations gratefully received.
We rely on you, as we do do the UK Treasury for pocket money and handouts:
The Government and people of Scotland thank you for your generous and charitable donation.

Gawd bless ye maister....it's for the kids....we'll no' spend it on the drink, honest.

It's a dull drab upside down Spanish boat of a building that could have cost much less by building it on Calton Hill in a more traditional Edinburgh look.

Donald Dewer's friends made a mint out of it.

This should be on one of the bricks:

One brick - £50
Scottish Parliament - £431,000,000
On the road to independence - Priceless

It's not even made of sandstone, I won't even mention the lack of Athenian pillars.
