The five Cubas framed up by the U.S. govemment on 'conspiracy'
charges in June 2001 are still fighting for justice. In November last
year, a federal appeals court threw out an earlier ruling by its threejudge
panel that had overturned the convictions of the five. The new
hearing starts on Monday, 13th February.
What was the 'crime' committed by Rene Gonzalez, Gerardo Hemandez,
Ramon Labatino, Antonio Guerrero, and Femando Gonzalez? They
were gathering information on ultra-rightist groups that, operating on
U.S. territory with Washington's knowledge and complicity, have a history
of violent attacks against Cuba.
The five are Cuban patriots who have risked their lives to defend their
country's revolution - which for more than four decades has been under
attack by Washington because of its example for working people and supporters of freedom world wide .
