As the party leader for the Free England Party (only registered in February 2008) I thought I should set a good example, and stand for my local contituency of "South West" London for the London Assembly.

The logistics of these elections seem to be defeating all the parties, let alone mine.  The London electorate of over 5 milion is divided into just 14 FPTP super-constituencies.   Even the Tories and Labour are struggling to get leaflets out to all the potential 5 million voters, although all parties with a London Mayoral candidate will have an entry in the London Mayoral booklet which is - at mainly taxpayers' expense - printed and posted to all voters.

Despite the poor outlook, I still wanted to blood the party and just by standing, I will place my and the party name on the ballot paper, as well as our main policy aim of English Independence.    All the foregoing will be achieved in respect of some 460,000 electors for the cost of a potentially lost deposit and of a few hundred leaflets.

In the last elections where English nationalists (i.e. another party to my own) stood in London, the results were dire.   In a 2007 parliamentary by-election in London, English nationalists were beaten by the MRLP (don't ask) and in a 2008 council seat election, the hardworking candidate got just 8 votes (i.e. two less than signed his nomination form).

At some time - not that far away - I am hoping that the English will start to vote in large numbers for English nationalists.    But these 1 May 2008 English local elections are an impossible challenge for the smaller parties, and come much too early in the Free England Party's development.
