Can't believe what the president of Iran said about Israel.

How to alienate yourself from the international community in one easy step.

Even the leaders of the Palestinian pressure groups are angry about this.

How long 'til George and Tony invade?

The zionist leaders of Israel are the enemies of peace in the Middle East.

that may be true -

but for the president of an already unbalanced nation which is suspected to have nuclear weapons and who openly hate america to say that he thinks israel should just be carpet-bombed is beyond belief!

Agreed.

I just find the reaction of Western Politicians quite amusing and hypocritical, I suppose the difference is the Iranian PM is being open and honest about his warmongering and bloodlust, whilst the leaders of imperialist states such as the US, UK and Israel talk of "peace" and "democracy" when in fact they are it's worst enemies.

Oh I agree with you 100%

It is completely hypocritical - but even nations who were against the war in Iraq will side with America and the UK on this one.

The president has shown absolutely no diplomacy whatsoever and has almost granted Bush a warrant within the international community to invade at the first opportunity.

Unfortunately it's looking more and more likely of when rather than if Iran is invaded.

I don't know if this is correct, but I was told that the Iranian PM makes a similar statement every year. It is just that this year, there has been a big thing made of of it. I can only assume that the US and UK government's media deptartments have promoted the story. This is just one of a number of anti-Iranian stories that appear to get the public on side before an invasion.

The Iranian President has been on the US Shitlist since it was revealed that he was one of the hostage takers in '79. It is indeed a matter of when not if the invasion is going to come to pass. Peace is the absence of conflict, there has never been nor will there ever be true peace, war is the natural human state so therefore every person and every state should be armed to the teeth as that is the only way to create a type of "peace", that being the temporary absence of hostility due to all parties involved fearing their own demise. True diplomacy is the agressive use of force.

Anti-Zionism is not “anti-semantic”, perhaps you should educate yourself before making idiotic reactionary judgements.

I like how you say “bonus of oil” as if having oil has ever benefited “the people” of any country, and not just a minority who enrich themselves from it.

I suppose that is your idea of democracy though.

Let's get this in perspective. A president of a country who are not occupying territories in other countries, have not invaded other countries and who do not own nuclear weapons has made a speech in which he quoted the leader of the revolution in his country (Ayatollah khomeini) in saying that the state of Israel should be wiped off the map.

This was at a students conference on zionism.

He stated the "state of Israel" not the people of Israel, and said it should be wiped from "the map" not the face of the earth. It might sound very dramatic but it is only words and only equates to a view shared by many across the world that there should be no state called Israel.

Meanwhile nations who actually do own nuclear weapons, who actually do invade their neighbours and who actually do occupy other territories are "shocked" and "disgusted".

This is a storm in a tea cup, over-reaction by the press, hypocisy from western leaders and the shock, disgust and indignation is fake.

I would rather Blair, Berlosconi and Bush were issuing rather nasty statements about Iraq, Iran and Syria at students conferences than bombing innocent people for their particular political aims.

Everyone knows that if Iran had an identifiable target in terms of nuclear capability then Isreal would not hesitate to launch missiles at it, yet we see no horror or disgust that Israel holds more nuclear fire power than France and the UK combined, has it trained on it's neighbours and still occupies the territories of 5 sovereign states against UN resolutions.

Some good observations in there Rinty - and a very good objective point of view.
