Reluctant Hero

Falkirk West MP, Eric Joyce, has resigned as an aide to the Defence Secretary over the growing death toll in Afghanistan.

Of course, it is a tragedy when any soldier loses his/her life, but is 212 casualties in 8 years of conflict a lot? What I am more concerned about is that it appears the the soldiers don't have the right equipment, or at least sufficient equipment. And also that there doesn't appear to be a strategy to bring this war to a conclusion.

He's gaining a conscience just in time for the next GE.

I'm sure he did it for the right reasons though... why are we in Afghanistan again?

we're in Afghanistan to protect vital interests:
under the Taliban the poppy production was reduced to almost nil.
now it's back to where it was before religious fundamentalists interfered with the supply and demand economics of free market.

Unless of course were still looking for Osama who is still living in a cave somewhere in the mountains......
