Community Volunteers Needed for Falkirk Mod 08
Mod 08 organisers are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to take part in this year's event as stewards to help the estimated 10,000 visitors heading for the Falkirk Council area.
The event, taking place between 10th and 18th October, is the world's largest celebration of Gaelic culture, language and music and will see visitors arriving from across the globe to support and take part in the many competitions.
Dozens of stewards are needed to help the event run smoothly and could be involved in a number of activities including:
Ticket sales at venues;
Meeting and greeting the audience at venues;
Acting as a venue point of contact for competitors;
Control of audiences during performances and;
Relaying information between the venues and organisers.
Most of the work will be during the day (scheduled on half day shifts) but some evening performances would require stewarding also.
Cllr Angus MacDonald, Chair of the Mod Organising Committee said: ‘Stewards play a very important role in ensuring the event runs smoothly and can really help to make visitors feel welcomed to our area and to the competition.
‘Ideally we would like as many local volunteers to come forward as the more we have on file, the easier it is to plan the event.
‘While the position isn't paid, it is a great chance to meet people from many different backgrounds and from a number of different countries. It also offers an opportunity to hold a position of responsibility at an international event.
‘We will be as flexible as possible when it comes to making specific arrangements and there certainly is no need to have a Gaelic background although that would be a definite advantage.
‘We want visitors to experience an exciting and friendly event and stewards are essential to making this happen.'
The new recruits will join regular stewards who support the event every year and will be able to offer help when required. Training would also be given to volunteers as well as meal vouchers
Organisers are looking for applicants aged 16 and over.
