England squad: M Vaughan, J Anderson, I Bell, R Bopara, S Broad, P Collingwood, A Cook, J Dalrymple, A Flintoff, S Harmison, M Hoggard, S Jones, E Joyce, J Lewis, S Mahmood, P Nixon, G Onions, M Panesar, K Pietersen, L Plunkett, M Prior, O Shah, A Strauss, M Trescothick, M Yardy.
Marcus Trescothick has been given the chance to resurrect his England career after being named in the England and Wales Cricket Board's 25-man performance squad for this summer's internationals.
In touch: Trescothick has got his season off to a flying start with Somerset at the start of this season's Liverpool Victoria County Championship
The Somerset left-hander is one of 12 players who are centrally contracted to the ECB. But his England future was in doubt after he left the winter tour in Australia because of a stress-related illness.
Uncapped Durham paceman Graham Onions is one of four non-contracted players included for the summer who did not feature at the World Cup.
Onions, along with Owais Shah, Michael Yardy and Matthew Prior can all be withdrawn from domestic action at the discretion of new coach Peter Moores during the season.
Prior now appears to be in a straight battle with World Cup wicketkeeper Paul Nixon, who has also been named after an impressive tournament in the Caribbean.
Chairman of selectors, David Graveney said: "The wicket-keeping position remains a competitive area. Paul Nixon and Matt Prior have been included in the squad but will be aware that they face strong competition from ‘keepers outside of the squad."
Stephen Harmison returns to the fold having missed the World Cup after announcing his decision to retire from the limited-overs game in Australia.
Ashley Giles, however, has been left out as he is currently struggling with a hip injury, but he could be called up later this year.
Graveney said: "We obviously welcome competition for places in all disciplines and are particularly conscious that the squad is currently light in the area of specialist spin.
"Ashley Giles has been omitted from the squad at this stage due to his injury but could be added to the squad if he regains match fitness during the season."
Another injury-plagued player, Simon Jones, though, has retained his place. The Glamorgan player is continuing his battle to regain full fitness after missing the winter tour.
