About the Stamford twentytwenty in Antigua, i just can't believe what a lot of moaners the ECB and the players are! they have a good chance of winning twenty million dollars for a weeks work and all they do is moan!!
They say the lights at night are not bright enough, but that's because the cricket ground is right next to the airport and no body's going to risk air disasters for the prima Donna's!
Then they complain about the pitch, well they have a point there,it doesn't encourage lots of run making and therefore is not as exciting too watch.
The next issue is Sir Allen Stamford chatting and having one of the players partners on his lap! Big deal! He was just walking around the ground and chatting with everyone. but what makes me laugh is that not many people would have know that the girls he was chatting to were the players partners, well not until they broad casted it themselves! better to have said nothing!!
Its as bad as when the Americans kept going on about the Jamaican Track stars taking performance enhancing drugs after the Olympics, especially Usain Bolt. The funny part about that is, the USA are the biggest users of all! What a nerve!

I watched the match between Middlesex and the Stamford superstars last night and it was Grrrrrrreat! They must have done something to the pitch because Fletcher for the superstars hit something like seven sixes in his innings, the place was jumping.I am definitely looking forward to the big one on Saturday, the only way I'm going to miss that is if I keel over!! I felt for Middlesex but it was to be expected.
The commentators did mention the incident over Sir Allen and I must say they tried to smooth things over.Apparently,Sir Allen was shocked by the carry on.He is after all an American from Texas I believe and is probably the first American to get involved in what is for him,a non traditional event.
The traditionalist do find twentytwenty cricket hard to swallow anyway and now along comes an American who builds his own cricket stadium and puts up the biggest prize money ever in the history of the game, Plus he chose the West indies to do it in.
People always resist change but there we go! |

`Hi RH,
"Stanford should just sign the cheque now and give it to the Superstars "
Oh but he did!
I listened to the commentary as it happened on the radio because the TV feed didn't come on till late at night and of course I watched that too!
I thought of booting up and posting the results here as it went along but I didn't!!
The radio commentators made several remarks about how,due to all their complaining previously, they had brought all that negative energy on to the field of play. watching them, I don't think that was far off the mark!
Imagine,England been beaten by ten wickets in twelve overs I believe it was
In the Caribbean there wasn't a dry eye in the house! Fantastic,I still have goose bumps!!
I sure wish I was in the UK right now,I would love to get my hands on the newspapers!!
Aahhhhhhhhh, Heaven!! (finally!!) |

England got a paltry 99, their lowest-ever score in a Twenty20 match.
It just proves that English and Welsh cricketers aren't as greedy as those representing the Stanford Superstars. _________________ [img]http://home.att.net/~chuckayoub/black_sabbath/black-sabbath-1970.jpg

well, they have been using Aussie terminology here, Whinging poms,as they have been called in the media here today.
Aren't as greedy Blackleaf?? How is it possible for a third world community as the Caribbean is,to be greedy?? Surely you mean needy!! Its the English who,had they won, would have been greedy. After all they are a member of the G eight!
Let me inform you of something, when the West Indies were beating the rest of world in cricket for like 20 straight years, they were just part time amateurs up until recently. They were not paid full time professional cricketers like England and others, with all the best facilities, staff and the like, they had day jobs and had to practice where ever and when ever they could. Very much like the Scottish team. And don't even think that they have state-of -the-art facilities to practice on either!
In the Caribbean by 6.30pm night time starts to approach and with no night lights, after getting home from work, what sort of time did they have to practice you think? Also, there was no coach,no dietitians and so on,each individual was left alone to keep their form. The only coaching and advice they got was when they went to a training camp just prior to a match, sometimes they would get private help from an ex-player,if they were lucky. And of course club and regional matches.
And then they were flown in from the other Islands and they had to get along with each other and quickly develop some sort of team spirit.
For this competition, they had to attend a very tough training camp and they were fitter than in a very long while. Its really hard for an individual to keep form without help being on their own.
Frankly,I think they are quite amazing all things considered. Its like Scotland who have similar challenges,if they were to become cricket World Champions under those conditions,I would think they too would be pretty special !!
Sir Allen simply saw the potential and like any savvy business person put his money where his mouth is. the rest of the cricketing world keeps saying how much the Game needs the West Indies back to strength, but what the .... have they done about it? Sod all !
It took an American to step in and help the Cash strapped WICB and Cricket in the W.I as a whole.I guess that if they keep playing as they did last night, the world will be seeing a lot of Americanisms coming into the game, I suggest that you engerlish get used to it. |

| For Cricket fans it isn't though. I know many staunch Welsh nats that support the England and Wales Cricket team, members of my family amongst them. While it's not a game for me I wouldn't dare call them Poms! |

Well I wouldn't want to be called a Pom either!! But if you represent England you will have to take what ever comes thier way,be it good or be it bad. Anyway, whatcha winging for? The guy's took back three and a half million USD.It was the biggest payout for any sporting competition ever. |

Which is fine, as I said I'm not a cricket person. I really couldn't care less. My issues where with the incorrect assertions and slight xenophobia in yor comments which dissapointed me. |

The Stanford Superstars were playing a game of cricket for the money, not for how you SHOULD play a game of cricket - for the love of the game.
And never mind banging on about how the Texan billionaire was a a "saviour" of West Indies cricket. Most countries were sickened by the obscene amounts of cash up for grabs in this game. They don't want to see cricket go the same way as football. That's why the Australians and Indians refused to take part. _________________ [img]http://home.att.net/~chuckayoub/black_sabbath/black-sabbath-1970.jpg

Yeah, and the Welsh, not just the English, are "whingeing Poms", too, in the eyes of Australians.
