Aye in the papers a couple of weeks back. Something like associating the story of the Snowman with an unhealthy sugary drink should not be allowed.
Aye, here we go...
| Quote: | | The new version has sparked protests from health campaigners who say that using an iconic children's tale to promote Barr's Irn-Bru is irresponsible. |
| Quote: | The Food Commission, a body that campaigns for safer, healthier food, criticised Barr's use of a popular character.
"During a period when so many food manufacturers are saying that they won't use well-loved children's cartoon characters to sell their products, Irn-Bru would seem to be behind the times," said spokesman Ian Tokelove.
Annie Anderson, Professor of Food Choice at the University of Dundee, said the advert would have resonance with children: "I would say that The Snowman is popular with children, in that it is something that embraces their hearts and minds. I just don't think we should be promoting high-sugar drinks to children. The Snowman has child appeal and so I just think it's not fair."
Nigel Carter, head of the British Dental Association, said: "The use of a cartoon character is going to appeal to children more and we have a horrendous dental problem in Scotland at the moment.
"I think it is easy to say that it is not targeting children's television, but something like 70 per cent of children's television watching is done outside this type of programming." |

Don't know if anything came of it though. I've not seen it on the tv yet anyway. |
