Well as a kind of antidote to the occasional ill-informed comment/attack what better way to counter-act it than some of the top rated political books on a range of mostly global ideas and the political realities behind them.

18 books are still in the running for The Orwell Prize 2009 - the Shortlist is announced on the 25th of March, with the prizes awarded on the 22nd April.
