This is a fact but truly when I see/hear the media talking about "Britain"British", I always say to myself, "weel whit/who dae they mean? Scotland or England?????
This is truly frustrating for Scots who live overseas and seek news of home, I.E SCOTLAND!!
To me a Brition means an English person,so British is just a derivation of that word, like scot/scottish??

To me a Briton refers to the old tribes that used to populate the island and eventually became the Welsh and Cornish. British is something I consider seperate and associate it with the Empire and stuff - actually theres a show which captures the essence of what I consider "British" on tv right now called "Al Murray's Happy hour" - its basically this pub landlord who is a stereotype of Britishness, of course I agree that its closer to Englishness than it is to anything else. _________________ "Quite simply, Labour have been caught red-handed so often that no-one believes a word they say any more." |

To me British is taken from the word "Briton" And these guys are the ones who during the Roman occupation of "Briton" as opposed to Scotland, depended on the Romans to protect them from raids north of the border,as they were farmers and had no idea how to defend themselves.Indeed,if my memory is correct, when the Romans pulled out of Briton, they left some soldiers behind to train the Britions how to defend themselves. _________________ Pict Quine.
