Hello,
I'm a Scottish woman languishing in the US (came here to go to grad school but my life ended up taking a rather, um, different direction to what I anticipated. Read about it in my blog, if you like: http://serizy.blogspot.com).
Anyway, I was just wondering where all the Scottish women bloggers are lurking. I've come across a few with active, well-written blogs, but there don't seem to be very many.
If you're out there, make yourself known, as I would like to start up a blog exclusively for, by and about Scottish women. I won't have time to get it up and running until May, but I thought I might as well start finding people now.

Hi Slutty,
It's usual to welcome new folk to the Our Scotland forum, I see nobody has done so yet where you're concerned, maybe nobody wants to be the first to welcome somebody described as "Slutty McWhore"!
"I was just wondering where all the Scottish women bloggers are lurking" - I pointed out what you said to my wife, Keri. She has a blog. However, you say "I would like to start up a blog exclusively for, by and about Scottish women" - and Keri wondered whether she would even be eligible for that? You are a Scottish woman in the USA, while she is an American woman who is permanently resident in Scotland.
Keri also said "I wonder if it's so-and-so?" - and mentioned the name of someone known to both her and me, as well as to some other folk on the Our Scotland forum, from other reaches of the web/internet. This person has, in the past, identified as being Scottish and in the USA, but has also given various mutually-contradictory stories which have made some of us quite wary. I said I didn't think you were her, but if you respond to this with "I know you, and your wife"..........
Anyway, on the assumption that we have not met before, welcome to the Our Scotland forum, and good luck with your Scottish women's blog.

| Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not going to start a blog about you. |

Hello, Dave
No, I don't think I'm "so-and-so" and I'm pretty sure that I've never come across you or your wife before. However, one time I did say that "Scottish Roundup" was sexist, so that didn't go down too well (and I think some of the people who run that are maybe also here as well?). That's the only way people from here would be likely to know me, as I haven't really spent all that much time commenting on other Scottish blogs.
And I definitely am Scottish and I am also definitely living in the US!
As regards your wife, yes, of course she would be able to contribute to my future blog! Now I realize that I should have worded what I said more carefully. I don't really care what nationality a contributor is just as long as they have female genitalia (either natural or man-made!). They wouldn't even have to be living in Scotland, just as long as they have something to say about Scottish issues (probably I'll write mainly about the arts, culture etc. I don't see myself writing much about politics because that's just not my forté - but I am a Scottish nationalist!). Like I said in my first post, though, I won't have time to start this until early May but that will give me time to think about what format I want the blog to take.
Oh, you might want to tell Keri not to look at my blog post today because I complained about Americans in it. Oops. But mainly American men and their strange grooming habits.
If that doesn't put her off, I think it would be really great to have her on board, as I think it would be very interesting to have an "outsider's" perspective on Scotland and the Scots.

By the way, Dave, has Keri heard of Peggy Brunache's blog, "Adventures in Negroshire"? Peggy is a Haitian-American woman who married a Scottish guy and who writes about her life living with him and their baby boy in deepest darkest Perthshire.

I’ve no idea what “Scottish Roundup” is like. I don’t even know what it is. And I don’t think my wife is on it, because, if she wanted to meet cowboys, she had plenty of opportunity for that back home. She isn’t on “Our Scotland”, there are some things she doesn’t like about it, but she does sometimes read things on here, and I will make a point of showing her your reply.
“you might want to tell Keri not to look at my blog post today because I complained about Americans in it” - she does that a lot. Mind you, she doesn’t like it when folk in Scotland make “all Americans are……” type remarks. |

Hmmm, sometimes I am guilty of coming out with "All Americans are..." statements but normally that's when I've had a really bad day and I'm just pissed off at the world. I know I shouldn't generalize but it's just so fun sometimes!
One thing I will say about most Americans (and I do think I'm right because I keep on having this experience again and again) is that I've found it REALLY hard to establish meaningful, lasting relationships with Americans that go beyond a surface level. Americans are very friendly, and will invite you to things more often that a European would, but I find that that friendliness only goes so far. Nobody ever seems to want to talk about real issues, or their problems.
But I'm living in a part of the country where I feel like a fish out of water. I tend to get on much better with Northeasterners. |
