did you know that last night rangers achieved what celtic have achieved away from home in the champions league since the competitions inception in 1993.

Here's is another wee fact.

Neither Celtic or Rangers have won the Champions League since its inception in 1993.

and another, away from home in the C/L rangers have picked up a total of 23 points.celtic have picked up 1.

actually landg's original post isnt actually a fact. If he is referring the the fact that Celtic have only ever had one draw away from the groups atges of the CL, then Rangers achieved that well before last night, they did in the first year of the tournament 1992.

Celtic didnt actually take any part in any of the group stages until 2001 when they qualified by beating Ajax (away from home).

Since then they have reached the last 16 twice and the later stages of the UEFA cup twice from that group, despite only once winning a point away from home (at Barcelona).

But stats are stupid unless they are relevant. The results of teams from before, with an enitirely different set of players and management team are irrelevant.

The statistics about Celtic away record relies on concentrating on only one element of european football, a particular stage of a particular tournament. It makes a comparison between away group stage matches, years apart, played by different players, rather than compare to overall away results in more recent years, with similar or same players.

As such it is a twisted statistic deisgned for effect, taking one stat out of context and finding a partner context for it anywhere that one can be found.

Celtic won away from home in Europe just 6 weeks ago in Moscow! 2 seasons ago they drew in Moscow to qualify, the season before that they drew in the san siro losing out to AC Milan in extra time, two years before that they held Barcelona to a draw in the neu camp, the season before that they drew in Barcelona also, knocking the Spanish giants out of the UEFA cup, earlier that same season they had beaten Kaunas and MTK away from home. The previous season, on their way to the UEFA cup final, they beat Suduva, Liverpool, Boavista and Blackburn away from home. That takes us back to their first season in the Champions Laegue groups and that win away at Ajax.

Selective stats never tell the real story.

no it is a FACT that celtic have only picked up 1 away point in group games since the champions league began. that is a FACT.

Yes landg, that is fact, I said so in my reply. It is NOT a fact that Rangers achieved that feat a couple of weeks ago in Germany, rangers have had many good away results in the group stages of that competition, just as Celtic have had many good away results in europe in the time period you mention, just not in one particular part of one particular competition.
