The SNP are enjoying the honeymoon period at the moment, so it will be interesting to see what these polls are like a year from now.
Thought Salmond handled the Glasgow attacks well, attending the scene and trying to quell fears that there could be a backlash against the Muslim community. Just have to make sure that any isolated incidents are dealt with swiftly and severely.
Anyway, here is what the Sunday Herald said about the latest poll.
The Conservatives and Lib Dems probably let the SNP into office in the hope or expectation that the party would implode due to lack of prior experience in government but I doubt it will happen. It helps that the macroeconomic powers of the parliament are not particularly substantial. There is a limit to how badly any of the four mainstream parties could ever screw up a block grant based on the Barnet formula during an era of economic growth. The real fun will start when/if Cameron and the Tories win the next election.
I think that they have very real problems ahead. The decision to endorse Labour's less-than-inflation pay "rise" to NHS workers will mean we will see how they deal with public service industrial action against their executive and that will be a real test.
Apart from that, the honeymon period is probably well-deserved. The SNP have announced their intentions early and been upfront in what they think that they can achieve. I particularly liked the message to the American consulate that the Scottish Executive opposes the war in Iraq.
Salmond is a real First Minister and a step up from the Labour FM's we have had so far.
I'd say that so far they have done well and that is reflected in this poll.

I have to admit I agree alot with your comments Rinty, He's done a really good job and was fantastic yesterday,
I think it's a bit harsh to put it down to the honeymoon period. So many people have been willing them to fail and they have come through it. Yes, many more challenges to come, but they have met those they have faced so far - including the way they have dealt with events at Glasgow airport and making the correct decision on the trams in the end as well - not an easy decision.
While they'll face difficulties, I think that they have created a lot of good will since they've come to power and that will make those difficulties easier to deal with. Certain areas of the press seem to be willing to give them a little more time now than they ever would have even a few weeks ago.
Off topic a bit but you have to read this article from The Herald business section. It is possibly the most blatantly unsubtle piece of anti SNP propoganda you have ever read.
Do yourself a favour if you can and try not to read the headline until the end.
I read this today. This is a disgraceful piece of journalism, blatant lying and taking the readers for fools. How low The Herald has fallen. An apology should be proffered forthwith and the journalist and sub editor responsible for this shown the door.
