It's not on the Daily Mail website but I found more information on this website and as October1974 said it is on the Scottish Edition of the Daily Mail and an article about it.

SNP gains in new opinion poll

The SNP has welcomed a new opinion poll which shows growing public support for the party.

A Progressive Scottish Opinion survey in the Scottish Daily Mail put support for the nationalist party on 48 per cent, ahead of Labour on 32 per cent.

The Scottish Conservatives polled eight per cent, as did the Liberal Democrats.

The survey also found that while 31 per cent of people approve of Scottish independence, some 49 per cent are against the move while 20 per cent don't know or are undecided.

A spokesman for the the SNP said the figures were "sensational", with support up 15 points since the Holyrood elections.

"The poll underlines the success of the SNP government in delivering our programme for the first 100 days, at a pace that has left the opposition parties gasping and unable to keep up," he added.

"This is the highest opinion poll rating we have ever recorded.

"The SNP has built credibility and competence in government, and that is reflected in the satisfaction figures running at over three-to-one in favour.

"No previous Scottish government has built up such a solid platform of support in its first 100 days."

It would be interesting to see how that question was worded. It would probably be the first two-option poll in nearly ten years to produce such a pro-union result.

Interesting poll indeed, more so interesting in the case of the Fibs and the Torys, if the SNP do a positive job in Gov't.

Do you think the 8% rating for the Libs is a) due to their attitude towards a coalition with the SNP? or b) the floating voters who voted for them before have seen the SNP getting off to a great start in Gov't and shifted to them?

So from one opinion poll we can conclude that the SNP seem to be doing a good job in Scotland and ofcourse opinion polls are not the real thing but well done the snp for such a high rating so far.

According to an article in The Herald:

Quote:
Asked if they would approve or disapprove of Scotland becoming independent, the poll found the electorate would be 31% against, 49% in favour, with 20% unsure.

Oops...

Strange that the Herald reports the opinion poll as regards independence
slightly differently
'Asked if they would approve or disapprove of Scotland becoming independent, the poll found the electorate would be 31% against, 49% in favour, with 20% unsure. When asked last January how they would vote in an independence referendum, 51% was in favour, 36% against with 14% unsure'
So which is it???
We have The Scotsman, Sunday Mail and Daily Mail stating that support for independence is only 31%, while the Herald reports that support is 49%
The problem is that we cant get access to the actual poll as Scottish Opinion dont seem to post the polls on there own website.
Looking at the figures though I would tend to go with the Herald, reason being that the unsures has increased from 14% to 20%, which is 6 percentage points, which is closer to the difference of 51-49=2 and 36-31=5. Than 51-31=20 and 49-36=13. If the later then the unsures would be more like 46%!

Anyone find out about this? The Evening News reported it as 31% for independence, but they probably just copied it straight off the Scotsman article.

I can't believe a poll could find 48% for the SNP and only 31% for independence. It doesn't make sense. If it is a massive 49-31 split in favour of independence, it will be an amazing incident of misreporting.

The Herald have got it wrong and transposed the figures.

It would be interesting to see the question asked on independence? Confused

I Took part in the YOU GOV poll that was quoted in the Daily mail. There were four parts to the question on Independence:
1. Favour outright Independence
2. More powers for the Scottish parliament
3. No. Retain the status quo
4. Don't know, don't care.

This question was definitely loaded and its results were predictable. More unionist bullshit and propaganda. There should have been three questions:

1. Yes, Full Independence
2. No. Retain the status quo.
3. Don't know, don't care.

That would have given a more truthful answer.

'S mise
Niall.

So the percentages for more powers and the status quo have been added together? You can't do that, surely!

It wasn't Yougov that were commissioned to do the poll, it was an outfit called Scottish Opinion, who aren't members of the Polling Council.
