From the Scotsman today: Sweet Dreams for SNP as Annie backs independence
| Hamish Macdonell wrote: | ANNIE Lennox, one of the most successful musicians in the world, has always refused to be drawn into the debate over independence in her native Scotland. Yesterday, however, in a massive boost for the SNP, she became the most high-profile convert to the cause for nearly 40 years. The star, who is due to perform at Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday concert in London today, told The Scotsman that she now believed Scotland could set a global example for what a small country could do. Lennox, who has sold 80 million records worldwide and won an Academy Award for her songwriting, said she wanted to see a modern, forward-thinking and environmentally friendly Scotland.
"In that way, if Scotland was to be independent, and it had that kind of vision, I would back it completely," |

How typical of the Scotsman to assume she's a 'convert'. A bit assumptive given the sentence directly before that states she 'has always refused to be drawn into the debate over independence in her native Scotland.'
For all they know, she might always have supported Independence but has 'refused to be drawn on it'.
I can't imagine this sort of thing will have people changing their minds over the issue, and I don't think it's terribly newsworthy, but I can't imagine it'll do any harm. _________________ "Gordon Brown mistook a glut of cheap money and a global bull market for his own administrative genius. It is another small, but important sign of the prospect of independence becoming normalised. We can't always just rely on Sean Connery for celebrity endorsement. If it gets a few more hundred scots to sit up and take notice, where speeches and manifestos have yet to reach, then it is all to the good. Always loved her music, nice to know she is "sound" on the future of the country as well! _________________ IT'S TIME.

| I agree with Cruchan and Azzuri Killie, It's not the biggest news in the world but always good that it's making press in Scotland and also another thumbs up for the Independence movement in Scotland. |

The interesting aspect for me is that such a worthy internationalist as Annie Lennox - who was awarded the British Red Cross’ Services to Humanity Award in 2008 - has seen through the phoney 'British' propaganda to realise that Scotland's independence is the modern way forward. For a list of the charirties which Annie supports - many as an activist - see here
