2009 Year of Homecoming advert released...

see - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/7754273.stm

A bit cheesy, but there aren't many tourist board things that aren't, quite good fun too.

I rather liked the old VisitScotland ones though.
azzuri

...aye preferred the visitscotland ones too.

seems some folk are complaining because they don't 'like' everyone in the promotion. I think it would be very difficult, if not impossible, to get a group of well-known Scots together that everyone loves.
Rinty

There is a few that I didnt know at all.

I still think we should have managed to sneak Kelly Marie in there, even if just to do the 'doop'doo' bit.

Is this "Year of Home coming" ad just being shown in Scotland ?

"The hell wi' all this, I'm away up to Embra to get pished". Yes, I can certainly imagine that feeling overtaking me on a Tuesday morning.
Celtic Indian

OK.Seen the ad 5 times now and it starting to annoy me,especially Lulus bit !
Aventinian

Is it on the telly a lot? Not having one, I rather miss out on these things.

Seems a bit counterproductive having it on in Scotland - it's not like you need to sell the bloody place to us.
azzuri

....not seen it once. I'd imagine it'll be aired in England as 2009 approaches.
agentmancuso

Me neither, apart from on BBC site.
Holebender

I've seen it on STV 3 or 4 times. I think the idea of showing it in Scotland is as a trial run and to prompt folk with relatives abroad (and who hasn't some of those) to encourage said relatives to visit.
Red Justice

I have seen the ad. When I saw Sir Sean Connery in it I thought it was an advert for the SNP.

Why not spend the Scottish government £5 million allocated to the "Homecoming"  budget on desperate Scots living in poor inadeqate council housing?

Probally becuase that £5m spent is hoped to encourage more tourist to Scotland and contribute to a bigger pot of gold to help towards poor housing and poverty. It's seen as an investment !

Yes - indeed, that should probably be obvious to anyone who thinks about the issue for more than four seconds, but it appears one of us has been neglecting his grey matter today.

Just like the nonsense we heard of the nationalists that the Donald Trump investment would be good for tourism. The reality is only direct investment to help the poor will work. The pro-capitalist parties are not interested however.

No 'investment' is direct, it's all been raised from somewhere and to raise it always results in costs. Even taxation involves the creation of, and spending on, proper fiscal structures.

Anyway, you've not really given an argument for this belief, simply stated it - and it's fairly outlandish, so I think without some sort of reason to listen, people are simply going to disregard what you've said.
