?The thing is BA, your threads with Mairead, Kathyv and Babygael become so long and convoluted, that it always appears to be a private party! I think I'll stick to the occasional foray into the politics stuff!
On the other hand..... if someone based in the English Midlands was thinking of buying a place in Argyll, should she/he wait until prices bottom out over the next two years, or try to get a good deal now? Keen to get a vote in the Referendum you see.
azzuri
....come home NOW and rent in Argyll, while waiting for prices to bottom out. The 'renting is throwing money away' argument only holds water while prices are going up.
Go on, you know it makes sense...
Blackadder
Bloody hell, Crookie ... it most certainly is NOT a private party. I've never (thankfully) met ANY of the witches!!! I just treat them as they are ... and they know what that is!
You and everybody else are MORE than welcome to get involved. You just jump in feet first ... or headlong if you're that way inclined ... and we'll take it from there. I think of us as more of a Question Time sort of thing. It's for the regular poster AND the dippers-in!!!
And I, of course, make NO distinction with any of you. You're ALL unworthy peasants I deign to spend some time with, and by that very action, I raise your potential to be interesting people. I'm a very GIVING person, full of the milk of human kindness!
So come on ... don't be shy ... you get nowhere by not joining in ... and it IS the taking apart that counts!!!
kathyv
By all means Cruachan, post! The more the merrier!
Part of the fun is souring some of that milk! heh heh heh
Babygael
Private party? Hey,you're forgiven cruachan, I sometimes feel the same way too! It's not really the case, its just that there are so few of us that unless you want to chat with your self, you are forced to converse with the likes of the "Twa Amigos"!! So please, feel free to jump in at any time.
mairead

Sorry that is how you see us my friend, but we would love more folk to take part in our inane ramblings. Blackadder and his wit have often brightened my day. Thing about it is that we tend to say what we like to each other and no-one takes any offence. I'm sure you would enjoy the exchanges if you joined in.
Blackadder
See, Crookie?? No-one takes offence ... or I'll force them to take the gate as well!
Just because this is the General Blackadder thread doesn't mean I have proprietary rights over it. I just enforce the General Rule of Blackadder ... which is ... to make sure you're all having a good time and I get a laugh at your expense!
Now join in ... and that goes to everybody ... or I'll get our witches to start hexing you all!!!
Cruachan
Well with such a warm welcome, how could I refuse!
Now for something witty and erudite to kick off proceedings perhaps with a bit of lurid personality attacks or self deprecating humour.....nope I got nothing - at least not this evening!
Bit knackered to be honest. Hard week at work, arguments at the dinner table, kids got no respect, credit crunch hitting hard, ludicrous Christmas expenses just round the corner, worries about aged parents, 6 months of winter darkness to look forward to, and a really sore blister on my foot.
I'm actually usually a "glass is half full" sort of guy! just not tonight.
Hope you're all well and thriving. Have a good weekend. Happy Friday!
Blackadder
Jeez, but you're a miserable git!
You fit right in here with Mairead, BG, Kaffy and Carol (when she can be arsed posting!)
mairead
Ach well Cruachan, things can only get better, Slap the cheeky weans and put them to bed, have a wee dram and cheer yourself up and enjoy the weekend.
Pay no mind to the Blackadder, (the rest of us don't anyway, we just humour him. ) He suffers a great deal from delusions of Grandeur and Adequacy you know. We ladies are actually a nice lot.
Blackadder
I take it all back, Crookie. You're not as miserable as Old Git Coolio on the History thread. You're okay in my book!
Hope your blister has been treated and you have your leg up ... if not over tonight!!!
Babygael
Geez Cruachan you sound like you could use a good rest this weekend! Hope you get the chance to recharge and look after your blister. here, have a group hug from us lot .BA included!!
Blackadder
Okay ... but just this one! I am NOT a hugger by inclination!!!
Cruachan
Thank you all for your kind words.
Today's another day.
Beautiful sunrise this morning in the English Midlands.
Bright but windy weather.
Parents still aged but its better than the alternative
Everyone's getting a cheap and cheerful book for Christmas
Blister is healing nicely.
Credit Crunch still real but at least we've a roof over our heads and food in the fridge which is more than some.
Work is work.
SNP win in Glenrothes still a possibility.
God is in his heaven.
The kids even apologised this morning! So did I for being a grumpy old b*****d!

Blackadder

Apology accepted.
Now ... | Quote: | | God is in his heaven?? |
Are you of a religious bent??

'Beautiful Sunrise' Lucky sod, I haven't seen a sunrise here for weeks. Just rain, rain and more rain. Duh

I have more questions than answers but despite war, famine, greed, cruelty, daytime TV and Scotland not qualifying for the World Cup, it seems to me that there is a mystery and beauty to this world that science can never explain. If I work it out I'll let you know!

Don't say that, it will let the cat out the bag. In my eternal quest to move back to Scotland I keep trying to convince my better half about the balmy sub-tropical weather of the West Coast. On our last two family holidays in Argyll we actually had pretty good weather so I could keep up the Tourist Board vision!
Babygael
I love your Avatar Cruachan, glad that you are feeling better today! Like you, i too am on the "Eternal quest" to move back!!
Don't mind BA,he's an atheist, poor fellow! Not that I am a fan of religion myself! That word as far as i am concerned, represents mans view of God foisted on the rest of us mainly for ulterior motives, namely ,power and greed! Pity they didn't read the part in the Bible where it says, not to take Gods name in vain!!
Yes, I hope that the SNP are some how successful in Glenrothes although,I noticed that the FM has been taking a very low profile since the banking crisis, not a good sign IMO!!
Blackadder
Actually BG, I'm not an atheist. I don't believe in religious gods ... and I'm definitely not a Creationist not Intelligent Design eejit either!
Let's just say, the symbol of the Ankh means much to me ... and I like the message Akhenaton gave us!
Babygael
Didn't Akhenaton worship Aton rather than Amun that was worshipped by the Priests? or something? well i guess he wanted to break their power but it sure wee'd them off.I believe after Akhenaton died they tried to remove any reference to him and reverted back to Amun.
let me see, are you into reincarnation?
Blackadder
Your perspicacity is utterly amazing.
And as reincarnation is basic to many world-belief systems, why not?
Life is energy after all ... and energy cannot b destroyed ... only altered. Basic physics!

Glad things have gotten better for you Cruachan,it is a beautiful world isn't it!
Here's a little item one of my students shared with me today, it's amusing. . .
Have you heard about the Agnostic Dyslexic? He stays awake at night wondering if there is a Dog.
Lighthearted giggling to all!
Blackadder
I'm more worried about the poster the local Church of St Anthony the Dyslexic pasted up on their notice-board ... Jesus Lures!!!
Children ... beware!
Babygael
Yeah well BA huni, some folk call it paranoia!! I prefer to call it perspicaity!! And as for reincarnation, I personally go for Transformation instead! I quite agree about the chi, I deal with that a lot in therapy and classes. Its quite interesting.
Blackadder
And when will your transformation into something vaguely resembling human occur???
mairead
Akhenaton.
I think he was the one who married Nefertiti and got rid of the Gods of Thebes and introduced the one God, The sun. Was he also the father of Tutenkhamun?

Kathy, How's the weather in Oregon. It's snowing in the English Midlands - in mid-October!
kathyv
The weather here is bouncing around like the stock market! 2 weeks ago we had snow then got a nice warmish Fall, yesterday was a beautiful sunny 68 Deg F, today is bitter, windy and 45 Deg F. . . up and down!
But the leaves are sure pretty!

| Quote: | | Akhenaton. I think he was the one who married Nefertiti and got rid of the Gods of Thebes and introduced the one God, The sun. Was he also the father of Tutenkhamun? |
Akhenaton was the first individual in history. The first real person we know anything concrete about. And he was an iconoclast. He threw down the ancient gods of Khem and instituted his personal God, The Aton, a god without an idol as the Sole God, bringing the gift of peace to all peoples who lived under the sky.
http://www.africawithin.com/kemit/hymn.htm
This was his gift to the world, but like all men, Akhenaton himself had serious flaws ... not the least of which was his strange appearance to his people, commonly attributed to Marfan's or Froelich's syndrome.
http://www.heptune.com/Marfans.html
He did marry Nefertiti, obviously a woman of great beauty and probably of an equal intellect. She gave him six daughters. Only one appears to have survived him, Ankh-es-en-pa-aton, later called Ankhesenamun.
Tutankhaton, later Tutankhamun, was either a very young brother, or a son by his second wife, Kia. The jury is still out on that.
After a reign of 17 years, by which time Akhenaton lost the Empire his dynasty had created, through disinterest and possible belief that empires were wrong. Who knows? Nefertiti may have predeceased him, as did Kia and his daughters, as well as the mysterious figure who shared co-regency for a short time, known only as Smenkhare.
Whatever else it was, it was a bold experiment the world was not ready for ... but was almost certainly the forerunner of Judaism and its tenets of faith which holds many similarities.
Akhenaton was the father of monotheism ... but a Criminal and Heretic to his own people. He was all but forgotten for nearly 3,000 years ... till Flinders Petrie and other archaeologists started finding references to him.
Akhenaton is top of my list as one of the greatest men ever to have walked this Earth!
mairead
His name was also erased and his face obliterated from his statues by his successor though was it not?
Blackadder
Not at first. His successor was Tutankhamun, who was succeeded by his tjaty (grand vizier) Ay, possibly his maternal grandfather. Ay reigned for only 2 years, since he was as old as Coolio, and he in turn was succeeded by General of the Armies, Horemheb ... and it was Horemheb who began to obliterate all reference to Akhenaton, Tutankhamun and Ay ... making it appear like he was the immediate successor to Amunhotep III, Akhenaton's father ... and the last of the strong pharaohs of the 18th dynasty.
Horemheb adopted Rameses, the first pharaoh of the 19th dynasty. His son Seti I, was the father of Rameses II ... the bulder of the Great Temple of Abu Simbel, which honours his first wife, Nefertari.
Nefer is the Egyptian word for beautiful. Nefertiti translates as "the beautiful one has come". Nefertari is "the beautiful daughter of the sun".
That's the names of two of my cats. The other two are Memphis (the Greek version of Mennofer, old capital of Egypt) and Tashery (Egyptian for Junior) Tash for short!

mairead
Thanks for that info. I find Egypt's history very interesting.
Blackadder
It's all over the Internet, Mairead. Go browse a few sites.
Maybe the prophecy of Edgar Cayce, that many former entities who inhabited Atlantis, then Egypt of old, are being reborn on to this world's stage in our modern era?
It's all fascinating stuff ... and there's so much to the Theory of Reincarnation that needs explainng.
mairead
I have often thought and wondered about reincarnation but never read up on it.
Blackadder
The problem with reincarnation is the strong possibility that cryptomnesia is at work.
I refer you to the Bloxham Tapes controversy ...
http://www.ianlawton.com/plr1.htm
Personally, I do believe in it, and that on day I'll return ... but the body I inhabit will not remember this existence, the experiences of which shall have entered the Akashic Records.
