A BIG thank you to AventinianI've been lurking around around here and some other message boards trying to decide about the pros and cons of both the Union and Scottish independence.
Having started off from a fairly neutral perspective of my own I have become gradually offended and then outraged by the procession of clowns put up by New and not so new Labour to defend the status quo. Increasingly their arguments become more bizarre and desperate by the day and have led me to believe that the only way out for Scotland is to become independent.
However, I have to say that these people have been bit players compared to the major factor in my conversion to the independence cause. Three cheers then for Aventinian, the comic book creation which in my view, is the best recruiting sergeant the independence movement has ever had or could even have hoped for. In fact, I almost suspect that he is a plant by naughty nationalists as he is almost too good to be true. Is there any way that the astonishing ramblings of this self-regarding genius can get out to a wider audience? Surely a media career beckons?

Some of what Aventinian says makes sense and even if you/we disagree with it he IS entitled to HIS opinion. At least he takes an interest in his country which is more than can be said for many of our fellow countrymen. I also suspect that he is a closet nationalist.

Of course Aventinian is entitled to his opinion and I wouldn't want it to be any other way. While I've personally found very little of what he says makes sense to me, I do admire his off-beam take on life and his "sod you all" attitude to all comers. Besides, as I've already stated, he has been a great help to me on my own walk along this road. I wish him well and would find it very amusing at the end of the day if he was winding everyone up and is a closet nationalist. As it is, he is the next best thing. To quote from an old song, "Strangely strange but oddly normal".
Damn, I'm showing my age now ........

Well thank you for that, but I feel that I ought to correct you as I don't have any special regard for any country in particular - I have an interest in humanity. Ask not for whom the bell tolls and all that...

Oh? Pray tell, what it is in my arguments that you have reason to question or doubt the sincerity of?
Other than that, I have to say I'm rather flattered. I don't think any other contributor to this forum has ever had a thread named after him, so thank you for the consideration: after all, there is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.
