And the gloves come offInteresting post from Wardog http://wardogblog.blogspot.com/20...labour-selectively-sectarian.html highlighting the lengths/depths that some will go.
It's disgraceful, but sadly I suspect this is just the start of it - not only for the Glasgow North East by-election, but for the coming UK General Election.
Remember that Brown said he would do "whatever it takes" to save the Union.
Politics was never for the fainthearted, but its going to get dirty.
The Scotsman has chosen to follow a Labour Party line and 'attack' the SNP's candidate, Andrew Kerr, for the forthcoming Glasgow North-East by-election over his religious affiliation.....

... and yet we have a thread on here about that very thing?
Apparently it is, shock horror, not a party-political issue.
Personally, I don't give a toss either way.

How do you mean? About Kerr's religious affiliations or the media angle on it?

Depends which part you mean - about my not giving a toss, that's regarding his religious affiliations and OD membership.
About the thread on here, I was merely pointing out that despite what you and Wardog have claimed, reservations over Mr Kerr's affiliations to this group and not limited to Labourites, or indeed Unionists - there are several examples of Scottish nationalists on this board who have similar reservations, and have voiced them very strongly.
The thinly veiled conclusion this Wardog fellow draws is f***ing typical: "IS
IS SCOTTISH UNIONISM FUNDAMENTALLY ANTI-CATHOLIC?" he cries. Well, I don't know, is Scottish Nationalism? Because it appears the very same is happening there.
Even on the Labour front, it's a bit rich to accuse that party of being anti-Catholic or even anti-Opus Dei. After all, Ruth Kelly - who was, of course, a senior cabinet minister - was an open member.

To say the least Opus Dei have a chequered history, but to be honest I thought the attacks and veiled innuendos about Ruth Kelly a few years back were just as unacceptable.

Additional things that could be said include their founder's dodgy assessment of Adolf, and the active participation of Opus Dei in dictatorships such as that of Franco in Spain and Pinochet in Chile. | Cruachan wrote: | | to be honest I thought the attacks and veiled innuendos about Ruth Kelly a few years back were just as unacceptable. | To be honest, I don't think I was aware of Ruth Kelly's membership, or, if I was vaguely aware, I'd forgotten. So far as I'm aware, I've only just learned of this, from this discussion here on Our Scotland. But now that I do know, to be honest, I would take exactly the same attitude regarding any politician, of any party, being a member of Opus Dei. OF COURSE it's an issue.
