Are Celtic Supporters Idiots, Bigots or both

It is hard for me to see any explanation of the treatment of Gordon Strachan by a substantial number of Celtic fans other than they will not accept a Scot as manager unless he is "celtic-minded" which is the clumsy codeword for "Irish Catholic".

It seems that MO'N can lose two league titles on the last day and get nowhere in the CL but is given a saint-like status among the support, while Strachan losing the league once and progressing in the CL, with less resources, will never be good enough.

Now we have the support clambering for Mowbray or Coyle to replace him!

When Strachan came to Celtic he had eight years in the Premiership under his belt, doing well in every year except one when Coventry were relegated, but some were already saying that he wasnt good enough.

Mowbray has had one season in the EPL and finished LAST, Coyle has never managed there before.

The complaints about the brrad 'penny pinching' just dont stand up to any sort of scrutiny, every year they spend what they bring in on players.

The massive recent rise in the incomes of EPL clubs mean that Celtic are now priced out of many players that they previously could have acquired, it has nothing to do with the board.

When Arsenal tried to poach Laweell away from Celtic last year di Celtic fans think "wait a minute, maybe this guy is good?"  No, they wanted him to go.  It's incredible.

some of them are idiots. some are bigots.some are both. as a rangers fan i'm delighted strachan is gone, he was a winner for them. when i told a celtic pal of mine this. he did not compute it very well. he is an idiot and can be a bigot at times.

It might be the right time for him to move on but many celtic fans had it in for him from the start.

Whoever comes in as his replacement will have the benefit of a young squad that he built, a freeing up of high wages from players who are leaving, and a sound financial position due to Lawell and Strachan reducing the debt to virtually zero.

If the fans want a "celtic-minded" manager irrespective of his experience why dont we go for Tosh McKinlay or Owen Archdeacon?

The next manager, you would assume, will have to improve on Strachan, i.e. never lose the league ever and get to the quarters of the CL, unless of course he is 'celtic-minded' then much less will suffice.
Reluctant Hero

I think it all comes down to the fact that a majority of Old Firm fans expect success.  That is why some of them follow the clubs.  You see bus loads of them leaving from all over Scotland.  Why are they not following their local team?  Because they want to be associated with success.  And if this success isn't delivered in the right way or by the right person, then they are not happy.

Possibly, but Strachan delivered succes to Celtic to an extent that hadnt been achieved since Stein.  They were calling for his head throughout this success.

I suspect Celtic will struggle in the coming years as whoever they bring in will be untried and unproven.

Rangers are nothing great and are skint but at least they'll be in the Champions League and will, I suspect, bring in some reasonable signings.

There has never been a better time for a third force to come through the middle, like Hearts or Dundee Utd. And I for one, and I suspect hundreds of thousands of others, would be delighted to see another team win the Premier league.
