BBC still failing ScotlandPlenty in the Herald today about the future plans of the BBC. Significantly, while the license fee is going up, but in the new digital age, there will be no dedicated BBC Scotland channel. From the editorial (www.theherald.co.uk/features/48680.html).

DIGITThe thing is, with digital technology it is perfectly possible to allow people to view any choice or combination of channels. If we all mounted a campaign to "choose to refuse" BBC and therefore the license fee, how could a govt so committed to choice and private enterprise refuse us? |

I'd be up for this. Reckon it would have a good chance if enough folk go for it. Maybe we could use the pledgebank (www.pledgebank.com) site. I'll cancel my license if say 1000 other people also agree to do it. What is incredible is that there is no dedicated tv channel in Scotland from either private or public sector, mainly because the BBC chokes all private sector involvment on that scale. The BBC needs to start serving us instead of itself, or be split up and sold off. |

I'm no lawyer - but would pledgebank allow you to use their service to try and promote something that is essentially illegal (non-payment of licence fee)? | ||||

I'm no lawyer either, but nothing illegal would be happening on pledgebank so I don't see the problem. Would it be illegal for me to say here on this board that people shouldn't pay their license fee? |

I suppose the whole point of doing something like this would be to tread the line between legality and illegality to highlight the ridiculousness of the situation whereby Scotland doesn't have singe a tv channel.
The pledgebank is being used by the NO2ID campaign (www.no2id-scotland.net) in a similar manner (www.pledgebank.com/resist).
