I don't doubt Tony would prefer any enquiry to be held behind closed doors.
The article says that teflon Tony was cute enough to get his views on the matter fed to Gordon through intermediaries.....so it's all deniable ( no "linkage" is an expression I seem to remember from somewhere). This undoubtedly will damage Gordon though.....and much more than all the other calls for his resignation. He might just go this time. Having said that, I think whatever pressure was put on Gordon to hold the enquiry in private some of it came from the other side of the Atlantic. |

I doubt it, he seems to have gone on something of a public relations offensive giving a number of 'exclusive' interviews in the print media. No, I think GB will be sticking around until the election now ... besides, this article is the only place that seems to be making anything of this. |

I've said it before and I'll say it again; Gordon Brown will have to be dragged kicking and screaming from Downing Street when the time finally arrives for him to go. He will leave finger nail impressions on the doorframes and floors.
He will never go voluntarily and even a heavy election defeat will result in the finger nail impressions mentioned above. |

Couldn't have put it any better myself. Anyone who thinks that GB is any less than an egomaniac who believes he knows better than anyone else is deluded. The guy is now staying until the election, the only other way he will be leaving Downing St. is in a coffin. |

I don't think he'll go of his own accord even if Labour get wiped out. Assuming he keeps his seat (and I'm praying for a Portillo moment!) I doubt he'd even resign as leader of his own accord. |

I believe you're right. I thought it was going to be Blair who'd do that after changing his mind the first time he announced stepping down. But it's going to be Brown by the looks of it. He's appearing as if ordering a recount wouldn't be out of the question either despite how many votes he loses by. |
