Burley Fires Warning To Call Offs

George Burley has warned players who call off for friendlies that they might not be involved in WC Qualifiers.

Think this is a double edged sword.  I agree with him whole-heartedly.  But if we don't play our best players, we risk not doing as well as we could have.

Totally behind George, I know it's been a very long season esp for the Rangers players and it does probably seem a bit of an inconvience to play on Friday in a friendly but Burley only has 2 games to see his best team and try things (czechs on friday and norn iron in Sept) although it's been a long season - McGeady will be playing for Ireland on Thursday alongside Terry for England after his recent pen miss etc.

Great to see Davie Clarkson in the side as well, such a complex season for him but I wish him all the best for the future and hope he gets a run at the Czech's on Friday afternoon.

I'm mixed on this. I'm very critical of players shunning their responsibilities for their country in matches, I'd even criticise players who at the ripe old age of 31 announce their retirement from International Football. For me it's a privelage to play for your country and it's up to the coach to decide that you shouldn't play not the increasingly egotystical players.

However there is a fault on the SFA here for arranging a match so for the likes of the Rangers players. The SFA knew full well what the end of the season was going to be like for the likes of Chris Boyd. It's up to them then to decide that either they wanted to play the match and expect the Rangers players not to be present and therefore use it as a chance to test and use other more fringe players (basically a B match) or cancel the match and appreciate as they should have the fact that this match is one match too many. Watching the Scottish Cup Final on Saturday it was clear that the Rangers players had proably played 5 games too much. Don't forget that 2 of the last few games had gone to 120 mins. That's another hour between the two matches.

I suppose Rangers have had a hard season and played alot of games but Dailly has pulled out, it is a bit of a silly time to have a friendly but look at England, Wales and Ireland all playing in the next few days and they have no call offs.

Dailly hasn't pulled out but he has acceptd the decision of his fellow Rangers team mates to rest for this game. To be honest I can't help but think how mh they would be after only playing on Saturday.

With regards to Wales, England and Ireland playing it's not quite the same. Wales are far from full strength for this game with a few players who where involved in the Play Offs over the weekend pulling out. None of the England internationals have played since at least last Wednesday.

I meant Dailly hasn't pulled out and is a prime example of a player proud to wear the jersey.

McManus should be the captain of Scotland, Barry pulls out too often of these friendlies. He's got something like 35 caps and he's been a first team player for Rangers since 21.

I'm not really a fan of Barry Ferguson but he pulled oput of this match because he;s injured. He's been having to have pain killing injections in his ankle and has been told to take a complete rest over the summer so can't really accuse him of not pulling his weight for this parciular match.

Im not giving a go on him this time as Burley left him out due to his injurty and season but his cap record is quite poor for a player of his stature in Scotland.
