Burley to be new Scotland bossAccording to the Beeb and other sources, it looks as though Burley is about to get the job. Must say, I preferred him to the other candidates. I think he will do a good job and he is not as likely as the others to walk away after just one qualifying campaign.

Not sure, I would have preferred McGhee to Burley, and Davies to Burley.
What do I know though?, I support Killie and thought both Smith and McLeish were the wrong appointments...

out of the runners,
I'd go with with in order of pref. for me,
1.McGhee
2.Burley
3.Burns
4.Souness
I think Davies pulled out early to show face as the longer the days went it seemed he had no chance getting the gig.
Good luck to GB and the Scotland team, it'll be funny seeing his tracksuit "GB with the Scotland badge underneath it" think he'll do a good job, did well at hearts, and although not doing so grand at southampton at moment he's had to sell alot of players for 4million or so and replace them with 500,000 buys.
good luck george!

A Cumnock Boy eh, Rinty!
Go for it George, good luck man. It would be great if we beat Croatia in the first game!
Such fun would be had down here.

Yes Corby, he lived directly across the road from me when he was with motherwell and ayr before moving back down south.
I think he is a good appointment and has a lot of good experience without being too old.
Of the candidates I think I would have ended up with the same preference as the SFA, Burley first with Burns a close second. Davies doesnt have enough experience and hasnt it shown at at the top level, souness falls out with too many players and McGhee also has had little success as a manager. Burley's performance with Ipswich and Hearts shows a manager that can get players punching above their weight. Burns couldnt employ his all out atack tactics that he did with Celtic as Scotland dont have many di canios or pierres but I would have rated him high because of his exoperience with the Scotland set-up.
But overall a good choice and it is important to have Cumnock people at the top of the tree, in my opinion.

Thank God they didn't go with Souness.

Yes, for that we can be thankful. I honestly think I'd rather have Vladimir Romanov in charge of the Scotland set-up than Souness!

Feel sorry for him - he clearly can't get a job anywhere but he just can't do it. Good footballer he was, good manager he saddly aint.

Souness is a loose cannon as well, I just think his management record is not good. He won trophies at Ibrox but that was due to the large amounts of cash he had to spend, I think he even signed a lad because he was "meant to be" George Weah's cousin and didn't check out the relevant documents if he was or not,
Good luck to George Burley, Every club he's brought some form of success be it promotion, uefa cup, title contenders, playoffs and the odd relegation too but I feel he'll do well for us,
Croatia is a mighty difficult first game, to be honest a draw would be an excellent result for us but also Croatia might use the game as a bounce match up literally as they can blood border line squad players to see if they are up to scratch for 08, Hopefully Hampden will be a ball that night - seen a few Saltires and Celtic tops in the Croatia end at Wembley when they gubbed England 3-2.
Hopefully Burley organises 2 other friendlies before Macedonia, would like to see us play maybe Finland, Belgium, Slovakia type opposition - a good test and not playing against a world class side.

Burley sounds brilliant, full of enthusiasm, eager to start! looks happy and sporting a big saltire tie!

Looks like Terry Butcher might become part of the backroom staff. Personally, I couldn't care less who we get to assist Burley, just as long as we get to the World Cup.

If it's Terry, hope he does a great job. Being English is of no consequence.
(Would be amusing seeing him in a Scotland tracksuit shouting on our boys against the Auld Enemy mind you!).
If I didn't have two left feet, I could qualify to play for both countries. There is only one however, that I would ever consider of course and it doesn't have an E in the name!
So, what's the problem with backroom staff. None really.

Butcher is fine by me, from what I hear he was excellent as a coah and assistant, even if he isnt much of a manager in bhis own right, when he retired he stayed in Scotland and his nationalist makes no difference to me.
I also think That Pressley might be a good appointment, he is a good leader and the players wil know him, as long as he gets to stay as a celtic player until the summer as celtics injury jinx with defenders is not over, far from it.

I'd be delighted with both Pressley and Butcher coming into the coaching team fold. Both leaders on the park, IMO both would be fantastic appointments by Burley.
