Yes.... How to invite ridicule of the cause of self determination in one easy step.
Please, please, please, remove this guff before anyone else sees / hears it.
God save 'Scatland' from Hawiain guitars.

A brilliant and touching song and any Scots persons listening to it should be proud to do so.
Voiceofourown.
It is heartwarming for many of us to know that those in exile can still support their ancient homeland.
True to form, Aventinian has something to complain about, as usual.......

I've no doubt it will, and judging by the video, maybe SnG won't march off in a huff when Alex starts to speak this year.

well Chic if you get word on what's happening at Bannockburn please let everyone know, other than the social event I haven't seen any info
As for your knock at SnG, I see you quite gladly recruit them for your new group

Are you the sort of person who cries when characters on soap operas die or something?

Many years ago when I lived in London a character from a soap was killed. The actor playing the character was appearing on stage in the West End. Some people actually phoned the theatre to offer their condolences and to cancel their tickets for the show believing that the actor wouldn't be appearing as he had been 'killed'.....................honest.

No Aventinian,
I don't weep for killed off soap opera characters, but I can weep, and do weep for my proud ancestors and for my bleeding country. That is probably something beyond your comprehension however, something you just could never understand..

Mairead,
I feel dirty just being on the same side of the argument as Aventinian , but we can do without such lame-brained, sentimental bunkum.
The arguments for independence are substantial and compelling I.M.H.O. but we need to start from where we are NOW.

Once again, I fight to suppress the urge to vomit.

Why 'should'? Must one's taste in music be determined by one's nationality also?

I didn't spot any geological references.

Having watched this awful film I can only add my voice to the Mary Contraries, it is an utter pile of sh`ite.
I don't object to the images too much, but I cannot stomach that bloody awful country and western song with its moronic lyrics sung in a most hideous American accent:
Can you hear can you hear the sounds in the distance
Voices calling with growing insistence
Listen closely and you will hear
The time for redemption is drawing near
And that is some of the better lines, it gets considerably worse.

Maybe Margaret will explain the background of the music and the guys who are singing the lyrics
regardless I find it quite touching, I'm too vague on the background to explain it although I do recollect listening to a demo CD of there's when returning home from a Wallace event and I quite liked it

Carol,
The song, called Ancient Home, was written and recorded by the Tucker family from Texas and is on a CD called Echo of the Exiles.
It is intended as a tribute from those born abroad but who are of Scottish ancestry, and is their way of showing their support for Scotland, which they regard as their ancient homeland.
It may not be to everyone's taste, but I think it is a lovely tribute and I have heard many other songs produced in this country which are much worse.
Of Course those from south of the border will naturally find it not to their liking.

I'm just making the obvious observation that this year Bannockburn will be huge, for obvious reasons. Unless the Uscum find some way to scupper it of course. I wouldn't put anything past them.

Well that explains the comic book version of Scottish History, Americans do have an unfortunate tendency to do this kind of thing, although it is sometimes difficult to tell as some Scots sing songs in American accents.
However I suppose writing silly songs about Scotland is preferable to have them imposing regime change.
Do they also write songs expressing their regret for having invaded other people’s ancient homeland and inflicting genocide upon those people?

Re-enactment of the Battle that weekend (usually held Sept), will no doubt pull in thousands, early indication from a reliable source is the SNP may hold it over until 30th although I'm led to believe there are ones liaising with the NTS, it looks as if it could be a Uscum scupper, bit late in the day to find that one out
Social at the Tartan Arms will still go ahead, tickets are nearly all snapped up, here's hoping the rally does go ahead on the 23rd, don't think folk will go out 2 weeks in a row

Most English speakers will sing popular songs in American accents, the Proclaimers and Madness being notable exceptions together with Paulo Nutini. Traditional songs tend to be sung in the accent of their origin.

Ach Well Anthropos, I can understand your wittering, there's not many abroad who write songs about Merry England is there.

I'd like to say 'unbelievable' but sadly it is only to be expected.
I read on the TAMB that they always have the re-enactment in September. So it looks like a deliberate attempt to spoil the SNP's party. How pathetic can they get. Infantile behaviour.
Still, more future votes for us.
I'm sure there would have been thousands at Bannockburn anyway although you are right, they will claim it is down to the re-enactment, that is why they are doing it. Let me have a look and see what past figures have been:-
Ha ha! found this here
Looks like the re-enactment members outnumber the crowd.
Won't stop them claiming the large turnout is down to them.
Also is this lot English? Seems rather odd to bring a company all the way up here if there are societies close by that can do it.
I heard that the SNP event has been moved to the 30th, and if it is its bound to be poorly attended as all the coaches, time-off etc has been booked for weeks for the 23rd. Again, another hoped for outcome no doubt.
However I also hear that the SNP are having fresh talks with the National Trust and may still go on the 23rd.
I think SNPers should still turn up in force on the 23rd and make sure they have as many SNP banners as possible there.
Looking at the photies, it would be great if some guys dressed up and used coconuts to make the sound of horses hooves a la Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Just for added gravitas you understand.

What a nauseating video.
It's times like this that I'm glad I never joined the SNP, I think I'm OK voting for them secretly and denying it .
