Daily DigestI've got to track my weight loss (or gain if it be the case ), so where better a place than here Truth be told I'm lazy when it comes to keeping a 'diary' tend to find what's the point as I can never find it anyway!! The main incentive is for health reasons The hardest thing is to get motivated as my energy levels are zapped at the best of times!!
I'm trying to reduce my caffeine although admit to having to have a kick first thing in the morning although throughout the day I intend from now on to get a bit more adventurous providing the contents in my cupboard aren't like me past their sell by date
Alcohol - I do like the occasional bottle of wine literally drank by the bottle not sure if I can reduce that once a fortnightly habit
sugar - not a sweet fanatic, although can crave choc occasionally, cakes I can be tempted with, although have been good recently.
fatty foods - tend not to eat much processed foods, junky beefburgers etc
excercise - try finding the time
motivation - yep BA gives me that, with the odd prod from the sidelines
I'm trying to work in stones (what I'm familiar with) although I think my clinic notes are kilos my brain doesn't quite function to conversion
starting weight 5 weeks ago was ermmmm not sure if I'm brave enough to announce it, regardless by yesterday I'd lost a kilo
Advice providing it's constructive is more than welcome

Hope this helpful to you Carol ...
Metric to Imperial
1 milligram [mg] = 0.0154 grain
1 gram [g] 1,000 mg = 0.0353 oz
1 kilogram [kg] 1,000g = 2.2046 lb (This is the one you want)
1 tonne [t] 1,000 kg = 0.9842 ton
Imperial to Metric
1 ounce [oz] = 437.5 grain 28.35 g
1 pound [lb] 16 oz = 0.4536 kg
1 stone 14 lb = 6.3503 kg (Also this one)
1 hundredweight [cwt] 112 lb = 50.802 kg
1 long ton (uk) 20 cwt = 1.016 tonne
For conversion all you need is a basic knowledge.
Say you're 12 stone (Imperial). Then ...
6.3503 multiplied by 12 = 76.2036 which is 76 and a quarter kilo (approx)
You have to factor in whether you are male or female, your height and age when you take account of what your BMI (body mass index) should be. You can google for BMI online and use the instant calculators to determine that.
But what they ... and doctors ... don't do, is figure in your family history and genetic disposition. We're not ALL supposed to look like Twiggy ... OR Santa Claus! We are supposed to be all shapes in between. We do not fit into a one-size-fits-all matrix! Nor should we!
Don't let these health-and-fitness-nazis bully you into thinking eveything you do is wrong! We are all individuals and we are all different.
Vive le difference!!!

Carol.
Whatever you eat, try eating a child sized portion every time. That Really works.

thanks BA don't think it's easy as the times tables we had to learn at school not sure how they work the classes now, I was too thick for maths, so was put into the arithmetic class, sat my arithmetic O grade using a caculator and still failed
I'll be counting metric in my sleep
started off with microwavable oats this morning then toast then took the 4yr old swimming and with having to watch him, barely managed a paddle then soup and a chicken salad sandwich for lunch in the cafe afterwards, oh and decaf coffee - can anyone actually tell the difference?
Not sure what's next, got some strange decaf teas in the cupboard, and some birdseed kinda stuff to nibble on as well.
ugh Margaret, have tried reducing the actual size of plate just so it looks as if it's ample on it!!
Really need to excercise may try the excercise bike later (usually survive 5mins), also got a skipping rope somehwere (just as well the downstairs floors are concrete!)
they say to drink loads of water, cleanses the body etc ugh

I hope this is not becoming an obseession with you Carol? It takes longer to loose weight as folks get older. I know I have that problem. However keep at it. Good Luck.
carol
some obsession RJ!!! nope got to do it for health reasons, thyroid, diabetes and whatever else catches up with one when you get older, i'm bordering on a few high risk areas.
BA hey old yin how bad does it get?
Blackadder
In your case ... very bad ... and I keep telling you, I'm only 42 ... hardly old, is it?
carol
do men always lie about their age

Ask Macnumpty!
macnumpty
No, some of us just have an old head on young shoulders.
And let me tell you, that was some night!
Anyway, Carol, good luck with the whole weight loss thing - here's a tip as well: try incorporating extra walking into your routine. My diet has on occasion been absolutely atrocious but when it was at its worst I ended up losing weight on account of the fact that I was walking an hour a day minimum. Most days it would be two hours. And that was only because I was a half-hour walk away from Uni and too cheap to get the bus!
A less good way is the Abcess Diet. This involves you finding out that chewing puts you in excruciating pain, and reduces you to drinking cup-a-soups through a straw for two weeks. Still, the weight loss is remarkable...
carol
I don't know Macnumpts age, although I suspect he's toyboy material
unlike yourself BA
Thanks for the tips macnumpts, have tried the walking before a few years ago and it did help, although need to find the time when the weather improves Lately if it's not ice it's rain and if it's not rain it's snow
hope to take up a monthly membership with the leisure centre in Perth (been saying that for weeks )
Thanks but no thanks to the abcess diet
Wasn't too healthy yesterday got plumbers in just now doing the bathroom so house is chaotic, juggling plumbers, kids, visitors etc it's grab what's easiest to make, ended up bacon butties, and the odd nibble at whatever else I could get my hands on, and with a stressful day ended up with a glass of wine (would've been a bottle but only had the remains of one )
Blackadder
Here's the best tip you'll EVER get for your diet, Carol ....... Stop Digesting!!!
carol
wouldn't be normal if I didn't digest
not got a clue how the losing weight is going, have had the occasional nibble of choc eggs over the last week, had a chinese instead of a chippy had a bottle of wine over 3 nights instead on one and the exercise is non existent
Blackadder
Whatever happened to your DAILY digest, Carol? Is it going WEEKLY or MONTHLY now?
How's the ( sniggers ) diet going?
macnumpty
Yeh, Carol, I know you're on a diet but I hope you're digesting something
carol
not booked a weigh in for a few weeks, also difficult to concentrate on a 'routine' when kids are off school for a fortnight
thanks for asking BA
Blackadder
Well, the kids are back at school now. Get into your routine, Carol. Let's have you shedding those tons ... come on, running on the spot ... hup two three, hup two three ... then star jumps ... then push-ups ... body twists and and finally, a three mile hike to help slim that flabby behind!
We're all with you, you know. In spirit if not in practice.
carol
thanks BA
kids here go back to school next week
Blackadder
Thanks?? Thanks???? I was being sarcastic dammit!!!
carol
I thought you were helping me along
Blackadder
How easily you fool yourself. However, if you are going to give us daily updates ... let's hear how much poundage you're shedding. Don't have us guessing. Get those kids of yours helping you! After all, you DID carry the ungrateful little sods for nine months without charging rent!
carol
can't give you daily weight loss if weigh in's fornightly
can say eating healthier, less caffeine, more herbals and green tea, less nibbles, more fruit and the occasional green veg
as for excercise .......... not much can't seem to fit it in just now
Blackadder
| Quote: | | can't give you daily weight loss if weigh in's fornightly |
May I enquire as to why you called this thread DAILY Digest then?
carol
the whole package, not necessarily the weigh in
Blackadder
You're still not answering the question. You must be quite sprightly on your feet, since you're dancing around to avoid it!
carol
if I was that sprightly the wobbly bits would be falling off
my diet's fairly healthy, just lacking excercise
Blackadder
Right ... expect an exercise regimen in a few days. And we'll expect you to stick to it. If you donn't ... then you're just not serious enough about losing your spare half-tonne!
carol
don't work me too hard BA i'll keel over!
I fell by the wayside last night, my partner had a gig at the local British Legion, nothing worse than going to a gig when you don't know anyone, I sat like a wallflower all night, and to relieve the boredom downed a few double Morgan Spice
I had the pleasure of sitting down to the national anthem at the end
Blackadder
How much is a few? 2? 4? The whole bottle?
carol
sufficient to say that I was still standing
healthy eating is ticking over this end, lapsing occasionally excercise yesterday consisted of a 30 min walk in the morning and an outing in the afternoon with the 4yr old and his cycle
brekkie this morning was weetabix with bananas and milk
Blackadder
Buy yourself a small wheel on handles ... for some floor exercises ... and look up (google) floor exercises. There's tons of this stuff on the web. You have no excuse these days ... and make time!
carol
my excercise bike knackers me after 5 mins. I haven't the stamina, easiest just now is walking and swimming and the latter I need to try and make time for. My energy levels are still pretty low.
Blackadder
Very sad! Let us know how the heart attack goes, will you?
carol
hopefully not quite at that stage had to have a nap this afternoon!! Must be old age creeping up behind me
Maybe attempt a swim tomorrow, kids are back at school so the baths will be quiet
At this rate I'll be looking like a walrus waddling down the isle
anyone watch How to look Good Naked? ......... chances for me yet!!
Blackadder
Nope ... I rather doubt it Carol. You'll just have to get along in your old tartan plaid left to you by your great-great-great-great-granny.
carol
arisaid BA get it right!!
Blackadder
If you like. I don't really give a toss. So I'm having a new caber cut!
carol
could say something to that
well I finally took the plunge (and the water stayed in the pool ) purchased a membership to Perth Leisure which gives me unlimited access to various leisure activities, just home from a 30 mins swim. When I first went to use my card the attendant asked me if I wanted the gym
Blackadder
Shoulda said yes ... all of it!
carol
it may meet your needs not mine!!
re fuel shortage, essential journey's only, so i think the swimmings restricted just now
Blackadder

The Blackadder is a fit, healthy (apart from the heidaches), good-looking individual who works out every two days. My personal trainer handle sorting out what me routine should be.

I never had intention, madam! And may I add, neither you to me either. I'd rather turn gay. Except that Macnumpty would be after me too!
carol
you don't know what you're missing!!
hey weigh in today, 94.5kg she also took blood for a thyroid test, although I suspect I'm on a loser there.
diet very very healthy, very high in antioxidants, I'm drinking green tea 'til it comes out of my ears, also loads of veggie and salads, so much I'm surprised I haven't 4 legs and a bob-tail sluggish with the fruit as I'm too lazy to peel things
exercise moderate although I'm needing to build up by energy levels, not ready for high impact stuff, swimming and walking does me just now.
so how's you're life style?
Blackadder
RICH!!!
carol
ccol I could do with a sugar daddy
Blackadder
Good luck in finding one while you're in your present condition then.
Can't see you getting one though!
carol
I'm not quite flat on my back BA!!!
got a phonecall earlier, had previously got a quote for life insurance, the insurance provider had followed up with a report from the doctor, damned premium doubled, beyond my reach I'd said to my agent I'm not ready to keel over yet!!!
Blackadder
I wasn't talking about you being flat on your back.
Does yor insurance require third party indemnity?? Or was that a size-ist comment your agent made??
carol
medical reasons BA, which will no doubt have a knock on effect where the weight is concerned
had a paddle this morning with the 4 yr old, hoping to go for a swim tonight. Also got an induction for the gym next week
Blackadder
Have you recorded ANY weight loss so far??
carol
nearly 2kgs
I'm beginning to think I may just make the best with what I've got
Blackadder
Toenail-clipping doesn't count!!
carol

you're jealous cos you can't reach yours

carol
I kick out if anyone goes near mine!
Blackadder
Use them to go running! That'll help you lose a ton or four!
carol
BA do you want to be left with balls
I had a gym induction today
Blackadder
Carol ... my dangly bits are quite safe from your depredations! Of that you can be quite assured.
Have you thought about liposuction??
carol
if you've the money BA I'll find the time
Blackadder
Hell, I ain't paying!!
You want scooped out, use the cash you've squirreled away for this wedding of yours that's coming up and just live in sin instead!
carol
you old skinflint
just started a 6 week programme at the gym, if this doesn't help the weight loss nothing will!!
Blackadder
Carol, I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend your absolute right to be beaten for it.
carol
doormats survive BA
Blackadder
Indeed they do. Give yourself a shake on the way out this morning!
carol
and you wonder why I don't take you seriously!!!
gym and swim this morning, still not quite slim
Blackadder
Gym, swim, slim ... and you still can't do limericks???
carol
if I was a male I'd say I was thick as a p****
Blackadder
Stop right there. Whatever small ability you might have is not enough!
carol
if I was on full form you'd be flattened.
energy levels are low just now, healthy eating flew out the caravan window at the weekend downed by nearly a bottle of wine was good at the time
Blackadder
There's your problem right there! You're an alkie!
carol
a bottle of wine possibly once a fortnight does not constitute me being an alkie
Blackadder
To a non-drinker like me ...... yes it does! I'll send the Temperance Society round to see you, shall I??
carol

I'm not quite ready for being carted away
Blackadder

| Quote: | | I'm not quite ready for being carted away |
That's only your (unrequired) opinion!
carol

well BA just think the worst scenario would be the both of us being carted away together
Blackadder
Don't give your mind a treat! You being sectioned is a promise as yet unfulfilled.
It would never happen to me. I have a genius level intellect.
carol
hey BA if they section us together then we'll never be apart
I prefer rogues
Blackadder
I'll never be sectioned.
You will!!
I thought you preferred rouge??
Or is that Macnumpty??
carol
can't imagine Macnumpts as a Dolly Dimples
Blackadder

Unfortunately .............. I can!!!
carol

Goldilocks (aka macnumpts) springs to mind are you Daddy bear, did you eat all the porridge
dread the thought was Goldilocks (aka macnumpts) sleeping in your bed
managed the gym today, treadmill is getting easier, the cross trainer is more knackering, the floor excercises I'm managing after a poor start the swim wasn't to be, wasn't organised for it
Blackadder
I rather think Manumpters would like to find a Goldilocks in his bed ... just not one with all of the wrong anatomical details for him. And the only way HE'LL ever his keep his youth ... is by tying him to the bed!!!
carol
you forgot the pink fluffy handcuffs BA!!!
Blackadder
No I didn't ........ and neither will Macnumpty .... you can bet the farm on THAT!!!
carol
good I can maybe tie both of you together
Blackadder
Well ... as long as it's not you one is being tied to ... I do have a classier reputation to maintain of course!
carol
I hope your boat sinks
Blackadder
Ditto!!!! But I wouldn't mind if yours went first!
carol
had the gym today, no swim was running late so having to go to Perth tonight (nearest supermarket is there) so may go for a swim then.
As for diet, was ravenous following work out session and had a notion for sandwiches (more than a few ) when I returned home.
Blackadder
You wouldn't need to diet if you were suffering the same as I am today!!!
carol

as long as it's not coming out both ends, yuk yuk yuk I sincerely hope you are back on form soon ............. second thoughts maybe not!

one way of losing weight!! Although not advisable.
I'm struggling losing it, healthy eating lapses occasionally had a 'must have choccie day' on Monday felt really bad about it the scales are hardly moving
Excercise - 3 times a week at the gym, swimming in the evenings at least once a week, if anything at least my body will be well toned!
Drink - bottle of wine, once a week but hey it's usually only one night, getting used to yucky drinks ie green tea with lemon/cranberry, and cammomile tea, even nibbling various nuts and seeds in between meals. Not sure if I'm going to come out the other end a bunny or a bird
