Democrat winObama IS President-Elect ...
How do you think he'll do?

I feeling cynical ... I don't think it'll make any great difference in the grand scheme of things.

I agree to a certain extent Alasdair. The "American Dream" hasn't been ripped up and torn to shreds overnight. America is still going to pursue the same sort of policies.
The difference will come in how they approach things I think. For instance instead of using arms as an answer for everything, I am hoping Obama will adopt a lot more diplomatic approach.
There are some areas where they are committed at the moment that they might not be able to get out of all that easily, like Iraq or Afghanistan. But when it comes to Iran and North Korea etc which are seen as "rogue" countries by some, I hope he will be more restrained than what his predecessor was.

I'm a bit disappointed.
I wanted McCain to win. Obama's just a socialist who is going to cosy up to Islamist terrorists.
A US President soft on Islamism is not the kind of US President the world needs.
Though I do agree with Obama when he says that he will put more US troops into Afghanistan and put pressure on other countries to do the same. Hopefully he'll get those who aren't pulling their weight in Afghanistan (most notably France and Germany) off their backsides and contribute more.

Apparently, sales in pillow slips and white sheets in America rocketted by 75% today! Does that make you happy, Blackheid??

Leafy have you been following all the 'eek! He's a Muslim' rumors addressed on snopes?
I think it's a better matter of wait and see rather than point fingers and gripe.
Every politician can have "he/she's just a ______ and he/she's going to __________" said about them.
I don't know any American who is worried now, and believe me many were before the final outcome.

Yes, a president with a prejudice, sorry, a hard line attitude to Islamism has been a startling success recently.

The only change the USA will see (or the rest of the world for that matter) is president #44 instead of #43. The reality is NO HE CAN'T.

I'm very cynical of Obama, he reminds me so much of the 'professional politician' that Blair was when he came to power in '97. He's been groomed to say the right things to the media, portray the right image etc. etc.
I worry he'll make the easy choices rather than the right ones, but lets wait and see.

His party controls the House of Representatives and the Senate right now so he may be able to do more than Clinton was able to.

I'm with Azzuri on this one. Control of Congres is prety much on a par with the landslides Blair had.
His rhetoric will change and we'll all see no change.

Like the U turn on his campain financing, or stating that his objective is to KILL OBL? Two big clues there that my supposition is already correct, IMHO.

Obama met Bush today. According to the BBC, Iraq, the financial crisis and a smooth transition of power were expected to be high on the agenda.
And here is me thinking they would be discussing what type of dog the Obama's should get

Must be really important when it starts off with a video clip, opium for the masses?
Mmmm, how is he going to tackle Guantanimo and keep all the other legal implications at bay? (no pun intended).

He says he's going to close Guantanamo down, that only leaves him with the problem of what to do with every one incarcerated there?
The legal system will have to kick it into gear and try everyone first or he'll have to grant amnesty and release everyone. . .

I'd like the family to get a mongrel terrier. Any dog with a bit of terrier in it is usually intelligent and frisky and fun to play with!
Anyone got any other ideas on this ... and why???

It will be interesting to see how long it takes the media moguls who sanctified him & the lawyers & bankers who put up most of his campaign money to start saying they never heard of him.
Meanwhile the Dow Jones is falling in the US but not as fast as our £.

Most of them in that place dont have enough evidence to take to a normal court so should be realeased and compensated, the rest should go for trial in america (that will be a small number) and then they can pack up and give the bay back to Cuba.
I read last year that Amnesty International had 67 cases on their files of political prisoners by the Cuban state. At the same time they had 4 times as many by the USA on Cuba alone! USA has more political prisoners on Cuba than Cuba does!
