Din Eidyn

Does the palace at Edinburgh sit atop Din Eidyn? Or, is Din Eidyn a nearby hill? Thank you.
Blackadder

The Whole Din Eiddyn question is addressed on another thread.

Strange ... it's usually a thread on a dress! Rolling Eyes
Hazel

Could you perhaps tell me exactly where? Thank you.
Blackadder

The thread marked EDINBURG
Hazel

Whew! Ask a simple question that could be answered in five words or less and get a long history that, so far as I can see, does not answer the question at all.

Thanks for nothing - I think.

The palace is actually called Holyroodhouse and sits at the foot of the Canongate.

The nearby Hill is Arthur Seat.

Din Eiddyn actually refers to the Castle atop the volcanic plug that we call Castle Rock. Or more precisely ... the Fort that stood there from around 350 or so ce

Din Eiddyn means the Fort of Eiddyn. Eiddyn is probably a personal name and may have been a son of a King of Strathclyde (Areclut).

That's the short form you wanted. It was never a simple question, because you started with faulty information. Hope that helps.
Hazel

Thank you. Faulty information is exactly what I thought I had. It is something that was written to me today. Hence my trip over here to those who would know.

I shall file this for future information and hope I don't forget I have it.
Blackadder

Well, thank goodness we can turn nothing into something ... Dear me ... does this mean I'm turning into a god??? I like that idea ... Sir Edmund Blackadder XXVI (all short lives) ... GOD!

I think we have a great idea for a new series, Baldrick ... look up Ben Elton's phone number for me will you? There's a good dog!
Hazel

Good morning.

Here is the source of our information which caused my original question.

http://www.undiscoveredscotland.c...nburgh/edinburghcastle/index.html

When sent that URL, I went there this morning to read a very good story of Edinburgh Castle and a clear disctinction between Holyroodhouse and Edinburgh Castle. So, it is Edinburgh Castle that sits atop the volcanic rock.

If I'd had that source yesterday, I'd not have troubled you. Sorry about that and thank you. Hazel

My uncle doesn't particularly agree with what is on that site and told there's too many variables not being seized upon.

Read the Edinburg thread again for his theories.
