Halloween ............

is coming,
the goose is getting fat
please put a penny
in the old man's hat
if you haven't a penny
BA will do  Wink

I had a strange experience earlier  Rolling Eyes the youngest had brought a pumpkin from his dads the other day.  It was all cut out inside, with a scary face etc I'd noticed it had turned black inside, went to pick it up and it all went soft in my hands, what a horrible sensation.
Blackadder

I prefer the traditional turnip lanterns.  None of that American crap is allowed in the Blackadder demesne! Twisted Evil
Alasdair

But pumpkins are so much easier to carve, pumpkin seeds make a nice wee snack when roasted, and you can make a nice soup out of pumpkin ... although trick or treaters are barred on the basis that THIS ISN'T AMERICA!

I don't feckin' care!  OUT with the Americanisation of our oldest traditions!!! Evil or Very Mad
carol

yuk yuk yuk Alasdair, pumpkin soup stinks, well it does when I make it  Very Happy

BA I couldn't find a turnip big enough
Blackadder

That's because the biggest turnip in your immediate area, is on top of your neck! Twisted Evil

And you totally walked into that one!!! Very Happy
Alasdair

BA,  traditions are always changed ovre time, in the absence of turnips any large carvable fruit/veg/squash will do ... unless this is a fascist tradition!

Carol, my pumpkin soup is crap too, although I know a man who does a delicious version!

BA, are you suggesting that carol should be carving a freakish vision on her face?

Maybe some of these ideas could provide inspiration for turnip heads everywhere!?
kathyv

Pumpkin soup with a lot of curry in it. . . yummmm!

I hate the candy grabbing night, then they all come to school the next day (or in this year's case, Monday) hopped up on sugar.

Besides, giving the chocolate away to the little ghouls should be illegal!

I bet we can guess whose carving the Blackadder turnips!
mairead

Noticed any toads around your pile yet BA.
Blackadder

That's a great link, Alice.  Love the carvings. The man's an artist.

Carol's face has always been its own carving! And while pumpkins are fine for Americans (lazy gits), turnips are better because the parts you scoop and cut are edible. Unlike pumpkins which are not. The fact that they ARE eaten proves Yank's'll put anything in their mouths!!!  Twisted Evil

Yes, Mairead. the local children are getting ready for the Halloween party in the manor on Friday. "Uncle Edmund the Lovable Laird" always puts on a party for the kids. And when it's time for them to leave, I just put Baldrick in the dining hall with them. I swear they're faster than the dogs in getting out of the place.  Baldrick's the best bogeyman in the country!!! And he loves children; cooking isn't required and he'll gnaw on the bones for days!!!  Twisted Evil

My features are unique, I don't need any freakish carvings done thank you

Twisted Evil just cos your face is like a squashed tomato  Razz
Blackadder

Is that really the best you can do, Carol??

You need to talk to your teenage kids on the Art of the Smart Mouth.

I learned a great deal as an adolescent youth!

Boys are very good at insults, girls at comebacks ... and gay kids for clever put-downs! My school-pal, Tommy and his boyfriend, Colin (nicknamed Cheryl) were past-masters at that kind of game.  Twisted Evil
mairead

sorry, double post
mairead

Great gathering of witches here last night and a few Ghoulies and ghosties as well.
Alasdair

fortunately or unfortunately depending on your perspective we're too far out of the village to get any guisers up, although the mrs and the lad were out and a good time was had by all, despite the snow (the wet variety) ... plenty of swag too to be 'shared' out!
Blackadder

The kids had a great party last night. My head butler reports that the winner of the best costume was wee Johhny Bruce (10) who came as the Invisible Man. He played it all night like he couldn't be seen. The only problem was the annual one when the cute little tykes tried to take my family silver home again. Apparently the shake-down at the door before they left gathered quite an impressive haul. Sad to say however, a fork is still missing.  So I'll just have to speak to my friend the Chief Constable and have all their hovels raided and we'll have what's left of the half-tonne of sweets that were handed out back!!  That'll teach the little thief!!! Twisted Evil

It was a girl who won the race to the gate this year. Little Ann-Marie McLeod (9). Perhaps having the lead dog nip her arse last year gave her that extra spurt to get out first this year. Only two children got caught, but the servants managed to wrest them out of a dozen slobbering, drooling chops before any real harm was done.  Only two boys had to have tetanus shots! Very Happy

All in all ... a very successful Halloween this year! Twisted Evil
Alasdair

You see, there just isn't enough of this sort of community orientated entertainment these days ...
kathyv

Light night. . .  I had 2 Dementors and a Biker/cowboy/hippy.

The Hubby was pretty happy as he gets the rest of the candy now.
Blackadder

Was at a costume party last night. Most enjoyable.

Now here we are at All Souls Day ...

Ho-hum ................
