I almost never read anything from sports journalists, save for occassional pieces from Spiers. However I made an exception here.
A couple of things actually struck me about this artice. This statement:
Now, what does Broadfoot mean here? The song certainly glorifies a battle against an invading force and the force's king is mentioned. However I honestly don't see any discrimination against another nation, creed or race. Broadfoot appears to be against the song itself and not just because it is an anthem. Another statement he makes is also interesting:
The dig at Alex Salmond will worry no one in the SNP, it is unprofessional no more no less. However, in making it, Broadfoot has revealed something of himself here, he is clearly smarting over something..........I wonder what it could be? |
