Well I've just been out and voted SNP as well... I'm still feeling clean though. Voted SNP on the list as well. For the council voted SNP, SGP, SSP, Liberal Party (whever they are). Missed out Labour, Lib Dems and Tories who were the only other ones on the list.

I voted around 2pm, in and out quick and easy. Admitted to the attractive young blonde that I was a "political anorak" when she was explaining the STV system which maybe I should have admitted to,

SNP - On both votes for Holyrood and then one for you son Rinty and voted SNP 1 & 2 for the council and Solidarity 3/

I went SNP for list and constituency.
In the council I went 1 SNP, 2 Green, 3 Independent. Then I stopped.

I think this STV voting system presents a good chance for the Greens to get some grass roots representation in places where they dont normally compete to any extent. I think they will be a lot of people's second prefs.

Voted SNP on constituency and list at 8;00am this morn. Voted SNP 1 in the council and naebody else. Only others were Lab, Tories an Independent and the bloody BNP. Would've voted for the Independent but I didn't really know what she was all about.

I was unaware that the BNP were standing any council candidates in Scotland- where was it, if you don't mind me asking?

When the SDP/Liberal Alliance finally got round to merging as the Liberal Democrats in 1988, a tiny minority of Liberal Party members refused to come on board, and stuck with the (Continuity) Liberal Party.

They are still active in the Leicester and Liverpool areas, where they have a few councillors, and there are usually some standing in the Edinburgh/Lothians area as well - I seem to remember a bloke called Hein (?) standing for them regularly.

Their main argument seems to be that the old Liberal Party was wrecked by association with the SDP, and that the Liberal Democrats are therefore just the SDP in disguise. I can see their point, but I'd suggest it's an exaggeration to say the least.

The main policy difference is that they are anti-European.

Update - I've just checked - they have 29 councillors and 78 candidates standing across the UK today. More than I expected, but probably not enough to make a huge impression on the 10,500 council seats up for grabs in England. Still, best of luck to them.

Thanks. Here's hoping they're last.
