Independence - Petrol Bomb Style!! | Quote: | Petrol bombing schoolboy detained
Hoggan was sent to a young offenders' institution
A schoolboy who attempted to petrol bomb council buildings in his bid for Scottish separatism has been detained for six months.
Jamie Hoggan, 16, tried to start a blaze at the Clackmannanshire Council offices in Alloa last August.
He was sentenced at Alloa Sheriff Court to six months in a young offenders' institution after he was found guilty of wilful fire-raising.
The teenager had maintained he did not take part in the attack.
Last month, Sheriff David Mackie said he would defer sentence to allow Hoggan to own up to what he had done.
The teenager claimed he was part of a group called the Scottish Freedom Force.
Upon hearing that Hoggan would still not admit committing the crime despite being found guilty by a jury, Sheriff Mackie said he had no alternative but to impose the custodial sentence, despite Hoggan's age.
Hoggan and his friend tried to firebomb Greenfield House by throwing bottles of petrol stuffed with lighted cloth at the Victorian mansion but only succeeded in setting fire to some shrubs near the building.
No-one was injured in the incident.
Hoggan's 15-year-old friend, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was discharged after admitting the offence and turned chief witness against his former accomplice.

I wonder what good six months in the young offenders institute will do him.

So, the young gentleman is now attending a college of further education where, ah'm sure, experts in the field of arson, mugging, theft and extortion will no doubt give him the benefit of their collective experiences. Ah'm sure that after the "experts" have corrected his amateurism, the young gentleman may have learnt his lessons well and become a little wiser after his enforced college attendance. He might even graduate with honours.

lol I completely agree, instead of sending people to jail or young offenders institutes for retarded reasons, where they are more likely to become hardened criminals - we should just have them resocialised through military school or something similar that wont be on their permenant record and wont leave them to their own devices in a worse social situation.

This is totally unjustified, as the guy was obviously pissing about.
He's just a wee laddie!
I mean, look at him!! Does he look threatening to you?
He never even threw his "firebomb" at the building, and I think he only succeeded in setting a bush on fire or something. Big deal. I bet MI5 were shitting themselves.
He wont last ten minutes in a prison. Heavy handed response to say the least. And yes, blown out of all proportion to harm the cause of independence.

I agree with Lothian Sky
Somehow I can't see the SFF wanting to target the Council Offices of the smallest Local Authority in Scotland
