not a good player but the best striker I've ever seen wearing the stripes. Not pretty to watch but gets the job done well - rather like a certain A. McCoist. To be honest I can't see him doing as well for 'ra Gers' because he needs a run of games to be consistent and his head goes down very easily. He won't get that at Rangers and that's why I think he'll be just another wasted talent at one of the Old Firm. I've noticed when he is injured or out of the team and comes back in, he doesn't score many goals. He's done brilliantly this season but thats because he hasn't picked up any niggling injuries and has played every game.
I'm gutted we only got £400K for him though and that he's off to Rangers, but there was a lot of dodgy deals going on behind the scenes between Rangers and Boyd's agent which meant he was only ever going to go to Ipox. As a self-confessed Rangers fan he made it very difficult for Killie and basically held them to ransom - he said if he didn't go now he'd be going there at the end of his contract (which only had 6 month to run).
Killie fans are livid with the way the deal was done and that he's off to Greyskull but we need to move on. Kris seriously compromised the club's negotiating position by telling the press that he was a lifelong RFC supporter and would love to play for them and no one else!
What makes me so angry is that Rangers are constantly bemoaning the fact they get 'no decent opposition' apart from Celtic in the SPL. Yet they constantly pinch other clubs' best players for peanuts and spend millions on dud foreigners - is it any wonder there is no competition? They told killie they 'couldn't afford' any more than £400K - yet they just got a £5million windfall from reaching the last 16 of the champs league.

Don't believe the talk about wanting competition. For years the OF have had a very clear strategy of buying players to weaken the opposition teams. If they end up getting a game as well, then that's a bonus, but the main priority is to halt any progress buy the other teams. What effect will this have on a Killie team only 1 pt behind Rangers?

nI don't agree. Rangers only buy players from other teams if they think it will make Rangers squad stronger, not to weaken the opposition. I've heard this claim over and over and it never stands up to scrutiny.
I remember Hibs fans greeting when Celtic "stole" Agathe for £50,000. None of the hibees were bothered about the pittance they had paid Raith for the player. Likewise when Dundee were greeting for compensation when Khiznazvili went to Ibrox. Dundee had picked him up two years earlier on a bosman and wanted to get payment when he was out of contract.
With the money from the sale of Boyd Killie will probably go out and "steal" a player from a lower club for £30,000 or even wait till players are "bosmans" and pay nothing for them, without a tear being shed for the Queen of the South fans and St Mirren fans who will lose their best young players. And of course they will moan that Killie and other SPL clubs pick of their talent, while tempting a promising young player away from Starnraer or Albion Rovers......top junior teams.....smaller junior teams etc etc etc.
If I were a Killie fan I'd be more worried about the fact that almost the entire squad are out of contract at some point in the next year. The Boydd cash might just keep the other good young players there for a year or two more.
And of course I am sure they will not moan when a good young player is freed by Rangers or loaned out by Rangers and Killie get them for nothing - it works both ways.

killie won't be buying anyone.
outwith the Old Firm transfer fees are a thing of the past. it's a rare thing to see clubs pay for anyone these days.
I'm not really annoyed that Boyd has went to Rangers, nor that he wanted to go there - rather the way the deal was done.

also, it works from the top down.
The old firm are the root of the problem. If say Boyd was bought for £2-3 million, then the smaller clubs would know Killie had money and therefore would demand maybe a few hundred thousand £K from killie for their players.
As it is, the Old Firm hold all the aces. If they don't spend the money on players, then the money won't filter down through the leagues and the cycle continues.

the wee clubs always complain when the old firm buy their players but choose to ignore the facts when they steal players from other clubs. it is sheer hypocrisy and can be best described as a wee sulk.
boyd has blue blood in his veins and has taken advantage of the bosman rules to play for his boyhood heroes. to blame his agent is silly an would k/k fans prefer he left in the summer for nowt?

Rubish. I perfectly accept that's how the system works. Hibs take playes on the cheap below them and the OF get players bought from above them. I was not complaining about that. Most folk I know at Hibs are quite happy to accept that and to try and use the system to our advantage as much as possible. And by playing good football and getting bigger crowds the last couple of seasons, we will hopefully move up the pecking order a wee bit. If you'd read my post Barney, what I was complaining about was the motivation for some of the buy that the OF make which I think are often motivated by the desire to diminish the opposion as much as to strengthen their own team. This is something that I don't see any other team in Scotland doing.

what would be wrong with using cash to strenghten yourself and weaken others if you have the cash to do it. any team would do the same and to deny that is again hypocrisy.
look at liverpool, we have been weakened by crouch and southhampton are a better team without him. ha ha.
