LAST CHANCE TO SAVE SCOTTISH HISTORY! wars of independenceTHE WARS OF INDEPENDENCE
In this video generation, I fear that we will lose a lot of local anecdotal history about Bruce, Wallace, Edward 1st etc. ... forever.
This thread is NOT political but historical and a chance to preserve what I feel will be lost forever.
You are the last generation that will have any anecdotes left to collect, WHO KNOWS, it might become a book with us all as authors, as far as I know there is no collected work available to match this idea.
I'm starting with the following anecdote because for years I've known of a story about Wallace as a boy that doesn't seem to be recorded as far as I can tell.
"Wallace was captured and taken to Edinburgh castle. The governor/commander of Edinburgh castle threw Wallace off the battlements to his supposed death on the rocks far below. However, the big man didn't die but was greviously injured on the rocks below and nearly died".
Most everybody in Stirling takes this story as history. It is true that Wallace was badly injured and disappeared from the scene for a while until he healed. The time frame seems to be in accordance with the story.
It's a good idea to tell one anecdote per post or it becomes complex and difficult to follow.

Yeh, I know, I know. But the WARS OF INDEPENDENCE could be an important thread(depends on the others) and I think this needs to start again as a separate thread.
A thousand apologies, but the general anecdotal history thread is also available for various stories.

There is a story in Blind Harry's Wallace about him being thrown on a midden and left for dead, but his companions recovered his badly injured body and nursed him back to health. I don't recall the location, but it wasn't Edinburgh Castle. My Copy of Blind Harry is thousands of miles away so I can't look it up just now, but I'm pretty sure this is the origin of your Edinburgh Castle story.

I know the midden story, but the story about Edinburgh castle still stands for what it is.
