Lib Dems scared of Democracy

Just watching Question Time (a rarety) and seems the Nicol from the Liberal Democrats opposed a referendum. Hmmm seems they are taking the Democrats out of Liberal Democrats then.....

thought the 'planted' question was great and quite scathing delivery, lol!! why was mcconnell not there and we had LORD foulkes there instead! Salmond seized the moment and waded in very well. In fact, i thought he was excellent on that, and the troops & Iraq. First 20 mins or so was top drawer. Nuclear power was worthy of mention which he did squeeze into a reply about crime Laughing . Suprisingly didn't wield the knife that much on the final Thatcher statue question - maybe trying to hold up to the the more stateman-like positive thing. he was almost generous to her Surprised

Hardeep Kohli was excellent too, very sharp mind ("300 years subjugation") when Foulkes said about 4 years constitutional wrangling. Was quite good to hear him talk fairly favourably on scots independence and talk about the war. Very down to earth guy and I think he was a refreshing change from the token muslim (council of great britain) or muslim women (from the respect coalition).

Foulkes met his match in Annabelle Goldie, hehehe. Only thing he has going for him is the recognition factor. Nicol Stephen I think looked foolish on the referendum question whilst salmond landed another easy blow. What gift it is to have the lib dem leader say a plebiscite on the constitution may deliver independence via the back door. what a cheek.

Audience seemed fairly favourable for a change. No mention of Socialists or greens. Also surprised we went the whole program with little or nothing on wave power, labour leadership or cash for peerages.

you can see the program bellow

Nicol Stephen: We won't help any party to give Scotland independence by the "back door".

Alex Salmond: How can asking the people of Scotland, in a referendum, whether they want independence or not, be independence by the "back door"?

Shot down in flames. Total class.

I was also extremely impressed with Hardeep and Annabel Goldie too - although she did seem a little out of her depth on the independence question - as if somehow supporting independence means that you don't care about crime, the NHS, education etc - as if the two beliefs are somehow mutually exclusive. Total nonsense. But apart from that, she was good.

The bit you quote there is just sheer rhetoric, that doesn't indicate a sharp mind, although I admit he had some decent points on certain issues. That said, I think he had a bit of a belief that he spoke for young people - he doesn't look particularly young to me.

Am I the only one who doesn't have a clue he was? I think it said 'writer and comedian' - but I've never encountered either from him.

Indeed he did.

rhetoric or not, he was very swift in his delivery and it put a stop to foulkes who had been in full flow.

i think he has written for radio and television. I recently watched a program where he studied the recent craze of championship poker -gambling and bluffing. I'm sure he travelled to the United states to take part in a professional game and was totally overawed by the occasion and not that well read in ettiquette. either him or his brother is the asian shop keeper in Still Game. hard to tell who is under the disguise
