MP's expences

An MP who needs to live in London to do his job should be entitled to the following
Help with house/flat purchase, help with mortgage interest. This is set at a fixed amount, when the house/flat is sold the taxpayer is to share the profit to repay the interest.
If they decide to rent, then help with rent only

Help is to be given to pay the utilities gas, electricity council tax telephone/broadband,the help will be equal to paying the two lowest bills.

No help will be available to pay for repairs ,improvements, food. Limited help with carpets curtains furniture, radio or TV,payment of stamp duty or legal fees.

Any constituency office and equipment expenses should me met by the political party they represent.

MPs should be provided with a constituency office & staff that remain the same even if the MP changes and there should be a big dormitory with a TV & internet access in each room for them to stay in when in London.

They've proven themselves untrustworthy with our money, so they should be allowed near as little of it as possible.

I disagree, they should be given big flat screen TVs, new cars, duck houses, moat cleaners, house cleaners and lots more.  You people don't understand how hard it is being an MP on £65,000 a year.

Hello Darling  Wink
Stevie

Actually it seems the ducks didn't like the house so the Tory MP shipped it over to his chateau in France.

I wonder who paid the shipping freight costs.
Corby Boy

Probably the RSPB !

I think they will have to re-write the definition of the word "transparency" after MP's latest attempts to mount the higher ground in the expenses fiasco.

Is David Cameron facing a backlash within his own party over the handling of Tory expenses, or is it the Guardian trying to whip up some Tory unrest?

A bit of both I expect.

Still, what do the MPs do? Revolt and get de-selected for fiddling their expenses? Or stay on and then be part of a government with a big majority and a possible ministerial salary.

Looks like Ian Gibson, who effectively got thrown out of the Labour Party over his expenses, is going to stand as an independent in Norwich North.

Considering the Tories only need a swing of 6%, surely all he will do is split the Labour vote and hand the seat to the Tories.

Maybe that is what he wants!
