Nacho Novo to play for Scotland?I think this would be a dangerous road to go down.
I just think it would be diluting what it means to play for and support Scotland.
I know Richard Gough, Neil Sullivan and others have played for Scotland in the past, but at least they had some connection with Scotland.
If we go down this route, we risk Scotland being turned into a club instead of a nation.

Not only that, but Nacho Novo is a w*nker.
At leas, so I've heard several thousand people say.

If Nacho Novo becomes a British citizen and he identifies with Scotland why shouldn't he play for Scotland? That's exactly what basing nationhood on a civic rather than an ethnic identity is all about.

Arsenal's Manuel Almunia may play for England.

....apart from the fact he's s***e and shouldn't be anywhere near the Scotland team.

I think this has already been done in Rugby.
Wasn't there a guy who was born in Guernsey and he opted to play for Scotland but had no real link with the country?
May be Terry Butcher will end up playing for Scotland seniors on the same basis?
Seriously, though, if a player has been resident long enough and feels like he belongs in his adopted country and is good enough, then I don't see a real problem with that. After all in Scotland's case in particular, we are not awash with talent. Novo I don't rate particularly highly though, or else he would have been capped by Spain by now.

A player from the Channel Islands can choose to play for England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland. Matt Le Tissier and Grahame Le Saux could have chosen any of the sides but chose England. I think the same goes for players born in Military Bases abroad. Jeremy Goss was born in Cyprus while Dave Philips was born in Germany but opted to play for Wales.

Yes. He lives here, that's good enough for me.

I don't think he's any better than what we have coming through or currently available O'Connor & McCormack have hit the ground running especially Ross McCormack at Cardiff - 10 goals for the season now in 14 games. I much rather see him in the squad than Novo.
He's a bit part player for Rangers and he's 29 as well. I'm sure he probably feels a bit Scottish after being here for a while.
Burley said last week that he would not be selected even if he had a UK passport.

Bobo Balde complained to the SFA that he should have been considered for selection for Scotland long before Nacho Novo as his forefathers were slaves in Edinburgh's new town!

Amouruso, Balde, Novo.... I don't have a problem with other nationalities wishing to be considered to play for Scotland. If they meet the international legal criteria why not? If they're better than our own 'home grown' for me it does'nt really matter.
If, however they're merely economic migrants (regarding their proffession) they should not be considered. Scotland for me is a passion, bigger than all the Scottish clubs combined. They should commit their taxes to our Health Service, our pensioners and our infrastructure, etc., as long as they earn...... as all real Scots do.
