SFL announce Irn Bru sponsorship.

Hopefully a TV package will be next to be announced. There was some talk of Setanta showing a live Division 1 matches on Friday nights, but that has gone all quiet.

A highlights package for all the divisions would raise the profile of the lower divisions.

SFL ends search for new sponsor

The Scottish Football League will not enter its second season without a sponsor after Irn Bru agreed a deal worth in excess of £3m.
Bell's pulled out in 2005-2006, leaving First, Second and Third Division clubs without a chunk of income last term.

But SFL chief executive David Longmuir said: "I am proud and delighted to welcome one of Scotland's best-loved and most iconic brands to the family."

The soft drink is famous for the slogan "made in Scotland from girders".

"We will work closely with Irn Bru to promote and develop the game," said Longmuir.

He promised "a range of initiatives which will be innovative, exciting and unique".

The SFL this summer survived a rebellion by some First Division clubs, who had talks with the Scottish Premier League about breaking away to create a second division of the top tier.

They had criticised the SFL's running of the game and, in particular, for failing to find a replacement for Bell's.

I wonder what the exciing and unique intitaives will be. I have some previous with irn bru having run some music events for them in the past.

At that time they also sponsored the PFA player of the year dinner and I got an invite. I think Paul Elliot won it.

About time they managed to sort out some sponsership. Couldn't do much better than Irn Bru either who I would expect to be fairly pro-active in upping it's profile. TV coverage would be good as well. 1st and 2nd should both be good leagues this season.

I thought it already was? Is it not usually referred to as Scotland's other national drink?
