School Closures in Edinburgh

Please take a few moments to read and sign the petition at the link below.

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/drummond/

My daughter attends at Drummond Community High School and my son is at Broughton Primary in Edinburgh. The latest proposals by Edinburgh District Council indicate that Drummond would shut down, with pupils being sent to Broughton High and that the building would be used to accommodate Broughton Primary and St Mary's. This would mean that pupils would have to travel 2 and a half miles to school every day… a 5 mile round trip...and there's no direct bus service. The parents have a great deal of faith in the new Head Master… Mr Reid and I know how hard he works to improve standards. The school is also one of the most diverse in Edinburgh with pupils coming from a vast array of cultures. Despite the fact that the school has over 500 pupils and is over 85% capacity it has been shortlisted for closure. Campaigners only have until next April to change the councils mind. There are a total of 16 schools in Edinburgh facing the axe because of proposals put forward by the new SNP/ Lib Dem coalition.

I want to live in a country that provides opportunities for our children. Please invest in our children's future and support the campaign to keep our school.

a bit too techie for me Rolling Eyes signed it but still waiting for email to follow through with confirmation

re distance from the 'new' schools mentioned, although there isn't a direct bus route, if it's the childs new catchment area and the distance to school is more than 2 miles then I think the council are responsible for providing the transport

best of luck

Edinburgh School Closures Please Help Save Our School

Drumbrae Primary School and its nursery have been targeted for closure by the City of Edinburgh Council. Drumbrae School was opened in 1957 and has served the community very well as a school and also as the central hub of the community providing young and old with a wide range of activities. It has received several awards for excellence in recent years and teaches traditional values to our children. Sports day at Drumbrae illustrates well the team work and camaraderie which exist across all school years. This is something to be proud of and something which we as a community feel we must encourage and fight to maintain. If, like me, you feel strongly that this great school should not be closed, please sign the petition at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/SaveDrumbrae/
Thanks for your support.
