the co-efficent

i cannae understan nit, are we doing well or not over the last few years.
aberdeen drew last night with a ukrainian team, not the strongerst of leauges. dunfermline got pumped oot in no time. hertz got pumped oot in no time last season. the only saving grace is the old firm, celtic have been abyysmal away from home but superb at home, rangers have only lost 2 out of their last 25 games in europe.

so, are we moving up or down the ranking's.
Rinty

We have moved up in FIFA rankings to 14th, highest ever I think.

In terms of the euro competition co-efficient, it is worked out over a five year period. In the last five years only the old firm have acheived anything with both Rangers and Celtic reaching the last 16 of the CL, Rangers reaching the last 16 of the UEFA cup and Celtic reaching the last 8 of the UEFA cup and the final, all in that period.

However, Celtic also have the "artmedia" season in that 5 years meaning that they have little or no co-efficient points in that season and this disadvantages Celtic and Scotland by only having 4 years with any points in it.

Celtic away record is better than some teams. The co-efficient is in all competitions and Celtic had some memorable away reults in the UEFA cup for instance.

If we take the 5 years of the current co-efficient:

2002-03 - Celtic lose in CL qualifying round but go all the way to UEFA cup final. Rangers, Aberdeen and Livingston go out in UEFA first round.

2003-04 - Celtic and Rangers both qualify for group stages of CL. Celtic finish third in group with 2 wins, 1 draw and three defeats. Rangers finish bottom of their group with one win, one draw and four defeats. Dundee lose in UEFA first round to perugia, Hearts lose in 2nd round to Bordeaux, Celtic go to UEFA quarter finals knowcking out Barcelona on the way and losing to Villareal.

2004-05 - Celtic gain automatic qualifying to groups stages, Rangers lose in qualifying round. Celtic finish bottom of their group with just one win and two draws (3 defeats). Dunfermline lose in UEFA qualifying round, Rangers and Hearst lose out at UEFA group stages with Rangers winning 2 and losing 2 and Hearts winning one and losing three.

2005-07 - Celtic lose in early qualifying round, Rangers qualify for groups stages where they finish second with one win and 4 draws. Rangers go out on away goals in last sixteen after 2 draws with villareal. Dundee United lose out in UEFA qualifying round. Hibs lose in first round proper to Dnipro.

2006-07 - Celtic automatically qualify for groups atges and go through to last sixteen finishing second in the group with 3 wins and 3 defeats. They lose in last sixteen to milan. Hearts are the other CL team and lose out in final qualifier to AEK Athens. Gretna lose to Derry in UEFA qualifying round, Rangers go to last 16 in UEFA cup where they lost to Osasuna.
