Mod 2008 Falkirk Preparations Being Stepped Up

PRESS RELEASE

2008 PREPARATIONS BEING STEPPED UP

As the organisers of the Royal National Mod wait to hear their fate in the Scottish Traditional Music Awards 2007, preparations for Mod 2008 in Falkirk have stepped up a gear with the news that James Graham, Mod Gold Medallist at the Fort William Mod 2007 has taken up the post of Mod 2008 Event Officer with Falkirk Council.
James will be working closely with Council colleagues, national organisers and the local organising committee in Falkirk as the build up to the 2008 Mod now begins in earnest.
An Comunn Gaidhealach (The Highland Association) which organises the Mod will be holding it’s 2006/2007 AGM at Falkirk Stadium on Friday 30th November at 730pm. In addition to the An Comunn AGM, the Falkirk Mod Committee will be staging a St. Andrew’s Night Ceilidh also at Falkirk Stadium at which James Graham will be performing along with Falkirk Youth Pipe Band and other local and national Gaelic singers and musicians. The evening’s proceedings will be chaired by Charlie MacColl, Convener of the local organising committee of the Royal National Mod held last month in Fort William.
Welcoming James Graham to the post as Mod Event Officer, John Macleod, President of An Comunn Gàidhealach said “The support from Falkirk Council for Mod 2008 has already been considerable and we congratulate the Council on taking the decision to appoint a Mod Event Officer. The post will be a key one in the organisation of the Mod and we are delighted that James Graham has taken up the post. We wish him well and look forward to working closely with James, his colleagues on Falkirk Council, the local organising committee and the wider community in Falkirk and the surrounding area to ensure a memorable first Mod in Falkirk next October”
Councillor Angus MacDonald, Convener of the local Mod 2008 Organising Committee said “Hosting of the Mod is an exciting opportunity for Falkirk and the surrounding area and we are looking forward to working with James over the forthcoming months in the organisation of what we are determined to ensure will be a Mod for all. Having attended a very successful Royal National Mod in Fort William we have taken on board the suggestions from the local Lochaber Organising Committee and we thank them immensely for the warm welcome and advice that we received from them”
The Royal National Mod has been nominated as Event of the Year at the Scottish Traditional Music Awards 2007 which take place in Fort William on Saturday 1st December. Public voting for the awards is open until 23rd November on www.handsupfortrad.co.uk/tradmusicawards.
