Official Election Day/Night thread....I won't be on all night like some of you lucky buggers!
But I thought I'd start the thread anyway.
I have a bad feeling about the counts tonight/tomorrow. Maybe it's just nerves because of the appalling way the gutter press have been behaving towards Independence and in particular the SNP over the last couple of weeks.
I just have this feeling that the headlines today will get a lot of the core Labour vote out and that the SNP might slip back a couple of % points. The ironic thing is that they may get the highhest % on both votes but still end up as the smallest party tomorrow.
Although the bookies have now suspended betting on the election, Betfair is still providing 'in-running' betting opportunities, so I imagine the odds offered will be the best way to gauge how the voting is going.
Despite the strong finish with the YouGov poll published in the Telegraph, the SNP have slipped back a bit to 1.39 while Labour are at 2.7 (to become the largest party in Holyrood).

oh, and it was reported today that Kilmarnock and Loudon aim to be the first to declare at 01.00 on the constituency vote - here's hoping it's good news for Willie Coffey and the SNP.

No one getting any news from exit polls?
I've heard that things seem to be going fairly well in a certain NE constituency. Although impossible to draw too much from that.
|
azzuri
|
Nope, not heard anything at all yet.
BUT - 3 hours to go until the polls close!
UPDATE - The SNP have shortened to 1.38 on Betfair while Labour have drifted out to 2.74
I must stress though that the liquidity on the market is not very good and these figures are sometimes being influenced by bets of as little as £2 at a time.

SNP drifted to 1.46 and Labour drifted out to 2.8 - maybe someone knows something we don't?

If Betfair were a good guide then it's not looking good for the SNP - just now.
SNP are still on 1.45 while Labour have been backed down all the way to 2.54 - someone is confident...

Was asking the people in the polling station what the turnout has been like and they estimated at 5pm when I voted, it was about 20% at their station which is pretty good for that time of day.
Also got into an argument with the guy handing out the Labour leaflets He was giving out a "sample" of how to vote with the X's against Labour. I said they were just blatantly trying to get us to place our votes against the Labour candidates. This went on for a couple of minutes
Then I went a wee bit further down the road and had a nice chat with the guy handing out the SNP leaflets about the candidate's chances.

I always find this part the most difficult part of the day... we all know "It's Time" but the clock drags in as you await the close of the polls. Then when the election programs kick-off we get a brief flurry of exit poll activity and projections and then it all goes quiet until we get the first result.
I've got a couple of hours sleep in the bag and I intend to see the things all the way through as I normally do. My election routine involves a huge amount of junk food. For the record I came home via Asda where I purchased a six-pack of Irn Bru, six-pack of Mortons Rolls (arent they great), block of Scottish Chedder cheese, six-pack of Salt n Vinegar square crisps, and a 4 pack of jam & cream filled scones. Cheese and square crisp sandwiches are the way to go.... ( ok, maybe I should have voted for the save Stobhill hospital candidate afterall )
My Yogi Bear picnic basket is designed to see me through the night without having to visit the kitchen. As I switch onto couch potato mode I need the TV remote controls by my side because I endulge in channel hopping from BBC, STV and Sky News. In the event that I have to leave the room an emergency battery powered radio can be procured from the mantelpiece. Patrons will find a vomit bag under their seat in the event that Mr McConnell emerges as the leader of the largest party.

I've had a few pints already
I think as long you have a cuppa coffee after each pint you should be alright.
Just read the Herald. It said Glasgow Kelvin is expected to be the first to be announced. SNP really need to be winning these type of seats if it has any aspirations of power.
East Kilbride is due at 3am. Andy Kerr claimed he was God the other day. Let's see how he gets on tonight.
Gordon isn't expected until 5am, so we will have to stay up until then to see if Salmond has won that seat.

Yea that happened to me one election on polling day, not this one, was stopped in dundee centre by a couple guys handing out labour leaflets, saying there's still time to vote labour, they were very persistent, said they'd walk me to the polling station if i need help finding it. I already voted snp earlier, not actually from dundee myself, but i was dam annoyed, i'm correct in thinking this is illegal? right, arn't they supposed to stop campaigning the day before

not long back from polling station spent most of the day there finished around 9pm then went to a pals for a drink turnout at our polling station is looking at least 50% don't know if that will be reflected nationally. It looked hopeful, Lab lot definitely weren't out in droves (usually drop minibus loads off here). Looking to be up some of the night watching results on TV sleeping on sofa and expecting a call from my local SNP candiate at 4am in the morning!
It was bril hearing from some of the voters that for the first time that they'd voted SNP, here's hoping it shows tomorrow with the results.
