SNP MEP, Alyn Smith is urging members to sign a petition set up to end the use of the European Parliament in Strasbourg. The monthly trip to Strasbourg costs approx £140 million a year and is a waste of money and time. The Parliament in Brussels is fully equipped to hold full parliamentary session and regularly holds mini-sessions. This petition is a citizens initiative, a new concept in the EU. If 1 million people sign up across all EU countries the petition will be considered by the Commission and the European Council. There are currently over 22,000 signatures but we need more.

I hope there will be a petition to get an Independent Scotland withdraw from the European Union. But I think only one Parliament is needed for the EU.
