For those who point out political limitations, there is a reflex accusation of being a non-believer. |
In the same article:
| Quote: |
Ireland, according to Alexander, was a low tax economy with a limited welfare state; Norway had a developed welfare system with a high tax economy. Sturgeon was asked how Scotland could operate a low tax system yet promise an advanced welfare structure. Sturgeon is said to have replied: "The difference is that I believe in Scotland." |
Says it all really.

No it doesn't. It might say something about Sturgeon and it probably says a fair bit about James Cusick, the Sunday Herald and her editorial team. It definitely doesn't say it all though.

She is in charge Gordon. And clearly she believes there is a little more to it than that. There is, however, a lot to be said for having some faith in the abilities of yourself and those around you.

I disagree. The totality of nationalist bunkum can be reduced to the expression "I believe in Scotland"; it is an idiotic statement.

It would be great if they did. And such belief is, however far-fetched, a perfectly legitimate expression of aspiration when referring to a sporting achievement. It is not a legitimate political programme.

Well that's probably because you have your opinion on 'nationlist' thought and you are desperate to find some avenue to read it through - so you have picked up on this line (that Sturgeon may or may not have made). It reads to me like a bit of petty political banter - on the same level as 'the Union dividend'. Nothing more nothing less.
We each see what we want to see.

Alas, he did not contribute any major theories on Nationalism and the SNP. I'm sure they'd have been interesting.
