GAELIC SUMMER SCHOOL
SGOIL SHAMHRAIDH 2006

Would you like to learn Gaelic or improve your Gaelic language skills? The Highland Language Institute welcomes you to our Gaelic Summer School which offers you the opportunity to learn Gaelic in a relaxed atmosphere and participate in leisure activities through the medium of Gaelic.

Our courses are taught by experienced, friendly tutors and you will be encouraged to speak, read and write in Gaelic throughout the weeklong course.

The classes are for adults and will take place every morning and early afternoon. Leisure activity will take place in the afternoon, such as: hill walking, Gaelic singing classes, sports, etc. A cèilidh will be held on the Thursday night of the course. The courses will be certificated by HLI.

WHERE/Càite: The course will take place at the Cromarty Training Centre, Cromarty, Black Isle, Ross-shire. The historic, conservation town of Cromarty is `the jewel of the Black Isle', and one of the most beautiful small towns in the Highlands. It is the perfect base for learning and relaxation. Set by the sea, it has a special atmosphere, with pubs, cafes, shops and museums amongst Georgian merchants' houses and fishermen's cottages. Cromarty is a 35 min drive from Inverness. WHEN/Cuine: Monday 24 July – Friday 28 July 2006.

LEVELS/Ìrean: We offer two Gaelic course levels.

Beginners: For total newcomers to the language. Course material is Speaking our Language series 1 & 2. These books can be purchased at the beginning of the course.

Intermediate: For Gaelic language improvers. Course material is Speaking our Language series 3 & 4. These books can be purchased at the beginning of the course.

COST/Cosg: The summer school fee is £120. This fee covers your classes and workshops. Any fee paying leisure activity (such as swimming, boat trips, etc) will be borne by students. Students buy their own text books.

ACCOMMODATION/Àite-fuirich: The Cromarty Training Centre offers accommodation for up to 18 people in four single, four twin & two triple rooms. B&B costs up to £27 per night and B&B, Lunch & Dinner costs up to £52 per day/night. Preferential rates can be obtained if booked through HLI. Various other types of accommodation are available nearby.

TRAVEL/Siubhal: You can reach Cromarty in half an hour from Inverness, which is 3 hours drive north of Glasgow or Edinburgh.
There are regular flights to Inverness from Dublin, Belfast and all over the UK. There are also regular buses and trains to Inverness and local buses from Inverness to Cromarty.
